World Championships 2006, team invitations announced

Yesterday the ICF announced the invitations to federations for teams participating in the Canoe Polo World Championships 2006. The championships this year are to be held at the rowing and canoe track ‘De Bosbaan’ in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Three in a row for Deventer

Deventer(NL) beat FOA(GB) 2-1 in the final of the 2005 European Club Championships yesterday.

In the Ladies category Posillipo(Ita) won with Acigné(Fra) second and FOA(GB) third.

Its a very slick site (well except for the links which don't seem to work)
but (cough) *where* are the results?

Rock as much as you like but fix the flamin site so we can see the results eh?

Folk can click on the header 'competition' to drop down 'statistics' or 'standings' etc, but all that then comes up is another header - no results, no data, nuffink about what is happening at all in fact.

Two points:

Firstly, what a pity so few countries are willing to give their u21 women the chance to gain this level of experience. It reflects very badly on them, the genuineness of their committment and their system of values.

Secondly, although I understand the pressure on the organisers to keep all the groups on the same basis, I would have thought with only 4 teams entered it was fairest and most reasonable to operate a league system whereby each team plays *every* other rather than 'a table'.
(i) Its a hell of a long way for everyone other than the home team Spain to go to play two games of Polo
(ii) it gives each team opportunity to guage itself against the others better.

Admittedly (ii) could be argued for all the other categories but in u21W there are few enough to make the logistics possible.

Good wishes to all the players, I just hope they're not too disappointed by the poor response.

World Games 2005

Duisburg, Germany was the venue for canoe polo's debut at the World Games. With the top 6 teams in the world competing in Men's and Women's divisions over 2 days the standard of competition couldn't be higher.

Netherlands beat Germany 3-1 in Men's final and in the Women's final Germany beat Great Britain 6-5 in a golden goal game!
