Hi Darcy,
I have given your email address to Dave Pillekers who may be able to find you a team in a mid-level grade.
Hopefully you'll hear from him soon!
Cheers,
Alice.

Hi again Darcy,
Not sure if there are any spaces left, but if you're keen I really recommend that you come along to Richmond Recreation Centre from 8.30pm onwards on Mon or Wed nights, and let people know you are available.
If you want to play as a fill-in, until you get find a place on a more permanent team, you need to be a full member of Australian Canoeing before you can play. Talk to the pool co-ordinator on the evening (ask a polo player to point this person out to you).
This is a good way of getting to know who is playing what level and find out what level you would be comfortable playing in. And ensure that you are in the running for playing on a team in the next season if you have missed out this season.
It would have been really good if we knew of you a few weeks ago, but now all the teams are full (at this stage)! Still may be a few places here and there though. Some people may drop out in the next few weeks when they find that the sport is not for them, so there may be a chance of this happening in E grade (lowest grade). You may need to play one season in E to get known and be invited to play in a D grade team next season.
Cheers,
Alice.

Hi again,
Yeah, usually the grades go from N (novice), E, D, C, B, and then A.
No hand-tackling in Novice
Optional hand-tackling in E (only when both teams agree)
D upwards, hand-tacking is free for all!
A and B - many state and national players play in these grades.
C is still quite strong, but a different game to A/B grades
D most players who have played for more than a couple of seasons have graduated to this grade.
E - the current entry/novice/1-2nd season players' grade
(there is no Novice grade this season, as there were not enough teams for this grade)
From what you've told me of your playing experience, I think D grade would be ideal to start with, but at the moment I don't know of any teams needing more players, hence my earlier suggestions of looking into filling-in in E and D to make yourself known, and perhaps a player vacancy will arise in the next few weeks.
In case you need details: www.vic.canoe.org.au/canoepolo and then go to MelbourneComp link on left of page.
Cheers,
Alice.
P.S. Dave is pretty busy at the moment, so he may be a while responding. Best if you come along on Monday week (19th March as Labour day holiday next week) and introduce yourself to E grade people. Or even, tomorrow night/next Wed night for D grade people.

Hi Darcy,
A group of us were chatting after training today, and there's some news which you may be pleased to know of.
There's a team in D-grade which is in need of another player.
They play on Wednesday nights - 'Mustangs'.
If you're keen, I strongly recommend that you rock up at Richmond Recreational Centre at 8.30pm THIS Wednedsday, and ask for someone to introduce you to the Mustangs / Dave Goodison.
Likely that you could be part of this team for the remainder of the season (we've only played two weeks so far).
Cheers,
Alice.
