After the success of the first edition, I would like to announce that we are now initiating our second competition for amateur photographers, the theme again being ‘The Game of Canoe Polo’.

The Competition officially begins on the 1st of January 2007 and closes on the 30th of May 2007.

According to the competition rules, each competitor can send in one photograph, preferably in jpeg format, to the following e-mail address: natisonekayakclub@yahoo.com (natisonekayakclub@yahoo.com), stating clearly their first and last name, city, country of residence and mailing address.

The winning photograph will be used as a base for the Official Poster of ‘The Franco Baschirotto Memorial Challenge Trophy’, an international canoe polo tournament organised in Italy every second weekend of July. The name of this photographer will also be printed on the poster together with that of the Organisers, the idea being to give amateur photographers more credit and merit for their artistic work.

The ten best photographs including that of the winner shall be on display during the two days of tournament for the players and public to admire. Also on display will be a small token of our appreciation for the winner’s work, a plaque engraved with their name and showing a miniature of the new poster.

The winner will be notified by email within the first two weeks of June 2007. The announcement will also be posted on this forum as well as on our website (mentioned below).

In the event that the winner will be present in San Giorgio di Nogaro on the weekend of the tournament we will present them this plaque during the prize giving ceremony. Otherwise we shall send it to them wherever they live in the world, at our expense.

Regarding this year’s competition, someone had remarked to me that the winning photograph depictured a foul action and should have been replaced with one more appropriate. All of the judges and I too, totally disagreed with this argument! A good photograph, showing static or dynamic action, a fouled or clean-as-a-whistle-shot should not deter the photographer from immortalising whatever he or she see fit to capture though the camera lens.

Great memorable sports photographs have been taken featuring many of these situations and have become famous because of the moment the action had happened.

One knows how difficult it is to get a ‘one in a lifetime shot’ of that perfect action in a game of canoe polo, and if one is to follow the guidelines of what should or not be photographed, then many of those images would have been lost or never shown at all.

Concluding, I would like to thank once more all those people around the world who had contributed to make this a successful competition on its debut and I hope that contributors like you, will continue to send in your photographs for this and also future editions too.

All the photographs sent in to the competition will be able to be seen the website: www.utenti.lycos.it/natisonekayakclub (http://www.utenti.lycos.it/natisonekayakclub).

Just a reminder: The winning photographer of the 1st Competition was Silvia Galasso from Madrid, Spain!
