As the six natios gets ever closer and we all here of the cheap flights the oppisate way. What would people think of running a six nation polo comp at the same time as the rugby but opisate way round this would give the squads some extra training.
Just an idea vote what you think.

I've played rugby for all my life as player and referee also in 1st league and so, off course, I am enthusiastic fo the idea and I think in Italy there is the possibility to play in Rome!

If the other nations are agree we could study it also for 2008 (for 2007 it's too late I think)

Do you mean a 6nations polo comp or have the polo players play rugby?

i think a 6nations polocomp would be great, Of course it would mean Ireland winning the Double(/triple when u include the world cup!!!), woohoo :D  :trophy: :ireland:

Great idea!!!!

It would be a great way for the national squads to get regular competitive games and surely generate more interest in the sport..........

Would you be thinking of a winter or summer comp? Pool or outdoors?

How about considering Limerick City - teh sports capital of Ireland as a venue?...could be Home to sport of canoe polo as well as rugby in Ireland!! :)
The UL Areana 50m pool would be a fantastic venue www.universityareana.com (http://www.universityareana.com) and only 20 min from Shannon airport www.shannonairportauthority.com (http://www.shannonairportauthority.com) with cheap flights to the other 5 nations with Ryanair, Aer Lingus and others........

I'm sure Wales would be able to field a team or two

My idea would be to have the games in the opposite country of where the rugby is being played the games to be played early so after the polo off to pub to watch the rugby. The games would be for the national teams ie men's, under 21s and lady's squads.
I know it is easy for me to say as I would not have the expense of the travel the squads would have but maybe some kind of fundraiser could be set up to support this. like a lotto at dcpl on Friday nights while the league is on and in Munster league as well.
This would be for starting in 2008 season as it would take a lot of planning and will need people in the other countries to set it up as well.
PS I am going to post the pool up on the British, French and Italian form and see what response I get.
Cheers Niall

Moved from Ireland forum to General Polo so everyone can discuss this rather than cross-posting in multiple forums :)

do you think we would be able to get a 6 nations youth/u21 competition aswell???

it wouldnt be wise to hold it the same set up as rugy, in Rugby each nation gets one game every weekend or every second weekend. Thats a lot of travel for a 20 min game when you are not funded!!!!!!!

A 6 nation tournament all in one weekend would be better at least then it is 5 international quality games that you travel for.......

..maybe at the first weekend of the 6 nations or the last weekend.....

Munster is a great venue too bound to get plenty of coverage on irish tv if there was a 6nations polo comp in the European Cup Champions home town :D and i'm sure grainne knows a player or two :D

lotto sounds greta too niall, your a real ideas man arent you!!!

oh and i'd scrap any plans to let the welsh entre, if they wear half as much fake tan as their rugby stars it could be detramental to the water quality at the venue....

The Six Nations comes from the Rugby competition bearing the same name

They are:

England
Scotland
Wales
France
Italy

I think it would be an excellent idea, but I would go with what Missy said, hold it the first or last weekend of the 6 nations. If it was held on the last weekend, you could then decide the venue for the following year by using the eurovision route, you win it you host it. Which ever Rugby team wins the Championship, that country holds the polo comp. Would this just be for National teams or would you include a number of club teams?

Seems to me you're just affraid of Holland and Germany.
Why not a six nations with the six best european nations. That's also what the six nations in rugby is. A bit strange to organize a canoepolo tournament based on rugby results of some years ago.
Or even better, the 5 best nations and the organising country, to incourage that it will be organised :)
So that's my vote, it's not in the poll.

I dont think the last thread is a good idea. As if we follow Remko idea we will just end up having scaled down version of european champs and that means the best teams will get better and the small teams fall even furthar behind.

And if we have a 6nations comp it means players from scotland and wales can gain some expencinse playing international players and see what level they need to reach before they are good enough to play for GB. This would also be a good idea as wales and scotland cant play at the europeans or world champs because of GB.

:twocents: thats my 2cents worth.

I am not impressed by that comment Bug. I have many relations from that fair nation. Unless of course you were constructing that observation for comic effect. In which case, good point well made. :wavey:

Great idea to hold a tournament like this. I would agree that it is not practical though that travel happens every rugby weekend. Then there is only one game each and it is expensive and takes some time. The idea of choosing a weekend seems like a better option.

Seeing as the six nations rugby runs over Saturday and Sunday for the entire tournament (exception of that last weekend - only Saturday) perhaps the second last weekend of the six nations would be best. There is too many matches on the final saturday to hold a polo comp and there is no way that a team will be able to play the sunday of the final weekend.

If it was the second last weekend then there is two days to hold the tournament around the rugby and also there is a bit of banter created because three matches have been played in the rugby already.

Great idea though.

That would be a geat cometition idea but which teams would take place in it?

So is this rapidly becoming the 7 nations, 8 nations, euro champs part 2...... :)

The idea of adding another single weekend championship is great, but I think the choice of who is the interesting bit....

I think that this would be a great idea.

Only thing I would say is that we are strugling for inside venues. Could hold it outside though. Might be a bit nippy
