Hey guys, after doing polo for a number of years it has become blatently obvious that polo gets absolutely no converage in Canoe Focus (the monthly canoeing magazine from the BCU for all BCU members). Now it would seem that quite alot of people read this magazone, particularly canoeists (so potential polo players and spectators) and it just seems a shame that articles of tournaments, leagues and GB outings aren't ever published in the magazine as it is great publicity for the sport.
I've spoken to some top level canoeists who have hardly ever heard about polo, if ever heard about it atall; thats not we want for the fastest gowing canoeing discipline. Surely if polo events etc were mentioned in the magazine every month, it would encourage people to play polo and would spread word of this wonderful sport!
What do you guys think?
By the way i do appreciate that it takes peoples own time and effort to write up these events but maybe it tournament organisers/people who attend tournaments could write up articles. I'm sure the BCU would be happy accommodate a spread on the mothly tournament results and stories.
Thanks

Nice point, but......

If you go over a few backissues of Canoe Focus you will find that Canoe Polo has not been overlooked. Coverage over the past year has included the Club Champs, National Championships, League playoffs, and the various International tournaments that are hosted by UK Clubs each year.

However, the sport could do with some more coverage, and this was addressed recently at the ACM, held at the beginning of December. It is hoped that the sport will now appear more regularly in the pages of this magazine. If your Club was represented at this meeting, they could have let you know.

However, to make this work, as you say, it would be good if reports were submitted from the various tournaments that take place.

Are you able to write such reports? These could be submitted either directly to Canoe Focus, or to the Committee for inclusion in a monthly "round up" of news.

Canoe polo does get a mention in Canoe Focus, my polo photos have been published there on more than a few occasions.

For canoe polo to get included in canoe focus magazine they need articles and photos to publish.

So rather than moaning about it, why don't you help do something about it!!!!
I am sure the exec will only be to happy to publish your news.

Yeah,

Been in lots more over the past few years. Thanks Canoe Focus people and those who do submit articles.

Okay, last issue not so much, but it is winter and only National leagues going on so what do you expect. lets face it, rivers, etc. much more interesting at the moment (especially when your team looks like being relegated!!!! ).

When I was coaching the U21's I sent through a number of articles to Canoe Focus and every one was published so as a few people have already said...write something and send it in if you are concerned about the lack of coverage...

It's true that if articles are submitted they seem to get published. I was asked to do an article on Boatshow last year, and it was published over a two-page spread with pics and everything! If we want to see polo in there, we just need to put it there.
