My word! How have you obtained such a body weight? I think you may need some nutritional advice. I recommend a diet of salad and ice cream. I also recommend you check out my chronicles for more training/nutritional advice. Remember! Muscle weighs three times more then fat! I am 16 stone of muscle :) GROWL!

I'm about 180cm and 72kg and I'm using at the moment DD Kinetic 195cm 70degrees. It's the fastest paddle I've tried

Kiddle

Which have you tried?

galasport polo contact, bracsa kinetic and DD polo energy and DD kinetics. maybe streamlyte kinetics are a good option too.

Im about 69kg, and 5ft 10. I use a double dutch kinetic, 45degrees and 200cm. this goes pretty well

When I'm in shape, I'm usually around 160lbs. I'm 6ft and I've sampled a lot of different blades and the best ones for me so far are Gorilla Grips 198cm at 80 degrees.

I would suggest you look at the size of the blades a being a particular issue.

You may well have a high power to weight ratio, but smaller blades would certainly help you on the speed department.

saldy, most manufacturers don't normally make this information so easily available.

So I would find this out and actually ignore most other information before you get a chance to try some of the smaller blades models around.

Carl - #1 NZ is a wee man paddling a vamp 2001s and he uses a DD energy so yeah anything could be good for you just try it but give each blade a good try not just a couple of sprints

I use brascia kinetic now after switchign from DD it too me a couple of traiings but now I preferr it

I am 56kg and i use DB Flows as i can get close to my boat and get the power from them.

Streamlyte Kinetics all the way! but i personaly think paddles have nothing to do with speed... its all down to the size of the GUNS!:barbell:

Gonzalez

I agree with Pru_blyth11. I am 21 kg and I think that streamlytes are the best. Guns have nothing to do with speed, however. I am sure my guns are smaller then those of Pru_blyth_11 but I am also sure that my speed is far superior.

How big is your boat? About the size of a paddle blade?

I'm not sure what the surface area is on a lot of the different blades that are on the market right now, but I'm sure Gorillia Grips are high up there. I'm one of the smallest on my team and I've sampled the DD kinetics. I feel as though they didn't provide enough resistance for me to kick in my adrenaline. When I have a strong resistance against me I know I have to fight it even harder and that's when you get your second wind.:twocents: That's why I paddle GGs

Kiddle

Ive had a go with some GG, i wasn't so keen, i get my speed by a high paddle rate, rather than deep powerful strokes. Thats mainly what i meant by the (For Lightweights) bit of the thread, because at our club the light ones prefer the smaller area, fast blades, and the bigger ones, large surface area for deep power. But it would seem that it must be the size of our paddlers, not their stroke style that give the little ones the speed advantage.

Hi all, i recieved my new DD Kinetics Today, thanks for all the advice, i will see how they go at training tonight :)

I don't believe that different paddles can much difference in sprinting. It all depends on your style and strenth.

Kiddle
03-02-2007, 11:23 AM
i have to disagree, paddles make a huge difference, when i use dbx accelerators they feel all wrong and i just cannot get on with them, or go as near as fast as i can with flows or double dutch kinetics,

I am a fairly new to this sport and i us a Shotover paddle and i can sprint fast with it.

I agree with nathan, its not the paddle, its the way you use it. I use a powerblade and I am among the fastest going around. This is of course not discounting the powerblades pedigree, with it clearly being one of the premier paddles.

Kiddle
04-02-2007, 07:23 AM
Exactly, it is the way you use it, and everyone uses their paddle differently, and there are varying designs for the various paddler styles, so if you get the perfect paddle to suit the way you use a paddle, you will get the optimum performance

what does that say about the guy with the powerblade?

what does that say about the guy with the powerblade?
he rekons he has a good paddel and that he's uber fast. imo ur not @ ur full potential for speed untill you're able to catch ur own throw... like 'turbo' Goble probably can.

matt... anyone can catch their own throw... u just throw it straight up

dude, he was being sarcastic, powerblades are terrible paddles and heavy as anything.

dont take this the wrong way, but these guys are talking about word class players looking to get the tiniest advantage they can, so the difference in paddles is noticeable. again i dont want to be rude, but i dont think your in the same league as these guys, so you might not notice the difference, but it is definately there

once youve paddled with one of the sorts of paddles listed for a while and go back to a shotover u will realise there is a massive difference.

Well Im 50kg at 160cm and I've tried numerous different paddles from all different brands. I own a DD kinetic and its the fastest and easiest to use in my opinion.

I only weigh 8stone and i'm 4foot 11 inches and i think the best blades are the gorilla grips because they are light and fast.

I like the Double Dutch Energy, they are a decent size and are totally rigid.

Wingman
25-05-2007, 12:29 AM
Im with Andrew. Energys are great sprinting paddles but you need to have the muscle to pull the large blade size. at 5"7 and 70kg I dont know weather im classed as a lightweight but im the smallest and fastest guy in the Aus mens squad and i use the DD energys.
Cheers

I wish you would come to teerms with the fact that you are tall Wingman, otherwise us shorties might get a complex.

Kiddle

Ive only ever seen one person with energys at training, and he was pretty damn quick. But defiantely too big to class as a lightweight. I will have to try them out next time i see him.

i paddle with brasca kinetics and find them good but ive tried lots of other paddles like double d and streamlyte and i am going to change to sl as they are lighter stronger and a much better blade all round
