That’s right, on the 3, 4 and 5 of November is the annual Big Boat Bonanza competition over Jackson falls in Wicklow. There is team event and I’m thinking of organising teams entirely from polo players with polo boats to compete. I believe plastic boats will be more appropriate in that case but it is your call what boat to choose. The only point of that is to support the event organised by Irish Freestyle guys. If we can get as many teams and polo players to get to the event over the three days as well the party on Saturday night it will be brilliant. The more people the merrier.

What people think about this?

Talk to you later

that sounds like a great idea Nik
unfortunately I'm on holidays :D so the chancers will have to run jacksons without me! not that that'll be a big loss to them

I have seen plenty of Salmon boats going over jacksons, which are longer and not made using expoy reseins (therefore not as strong) and coming out undamaged. So if you really wanted you could use your own polo boat. It's more a matter of how much you trust your boat skills. :wavey:

Cheers guys for the comments,

Is not the case to use slalom boats. I’d like polo community to support the freestyle event get the both communities work together supporting each other, so when there is polo event and I’m sure there will be few big ones in 2007 (Docklands is approaching fast) we can invite the freestyle guys to come and watch and support our events. If we don’t support each other on a first place how then we can ask for support from outside.

Lets get the polo community down at the weekend for the craic and the party, organise few teams have a laugh and enjoy the day.

Nik,

I am all on for the idea, however, are they legal to go over Jacksons in the BBB?

According to the rules from previous years, each boat that enters must have grab handles on both ends of the kayak in order to be considered for the team or fun events. This is to facilitate rescue in case a kayak gets stuck in a hole it is not mean to be. The rescuers want to be able to get a cow-tail on the kayak.

Now as much as I want to do it in my polo boat, I am not prepared to put a set of handles on the boat. I think it will be my Dagger again unless this rule is relaxed.

Unless you have your own plastic boats I do not see clubs, DCPL or NCPC allowing their plastics to be used in this way.

This should not stop people going up. People generally get one run each day. And a lot of people have two river boats so people shoulds be able to barrow these for the event.

This is always an enjoyable event and well worth going up to watch even if you are not paddling.

Excellent sentiment Nic!

This is a really great comp too, loads of fun, so take whatever boat you have and go for it. Longer boats are faster, but you may all want to consider how much water is going to be there on the day cos it's a bit shallow above Jacksons too!

Also, anyone that's a bit worried about doing Jacksons - don't be. You'll probably never get to run it with anywhere near the amount of rescue there will be that weekend.

With the type of footrests in polo boats they become a safety hazard if you collide with a rock. So I would say they probabaly will not let you run jacksons in polo boats.
