In response to the many queries I have received over the last few days, here is all the information I can provide at the moment. As soon as I know more I will advise you all immediately.
I am currently waiting on the University Arena to confirm the dates (five nights at least, maybe more) I have requested.
As soon as they do this I will be in touch regarding the format of the competition.
The only other thing I can advise at the moment is that due to an increase in the Arena's rates, the price per team will increase this year. I don't think it will be a big increase but it depends on what kind of deal I can work out with the Arena.
So basically, the comp will run this year, probably starting in November, probably, one Saturday evening a month and as soon as I know any more, I will definitely let you all know.
Regards,
Jimmy

Ok,
Here are the dates for this year's Munster Polo League. I am NOT taking entries yet as the exact format of the competition is yet to be finalised. But here are the dates for your diaries.

Nov 11, Dec 2, Jan 13, Feb 03, and March 17

I realise the 17 march is paddys day but it's the only date that's available that month. If it will cause major problems this date could be rescheduled but this would have a knock-on effect on the number of teams competing in each division.
I will be seeking entries in a few days.
Regards,
Jimmy

Hello,
Just a quick update on the MPL.
Due to the restrictive schedule imposed on me by the venue, I have had to limit the competition to five teams per division. To be fair to the teams that entered last year I will be giving them first refusal at entry.
I am up the walls at the moment but I am currently trying to contact all the teams that took part last year. This is proving difficult as Ritchie did not leave any contact details for me.
I hope to have this done by the end of the weekend.
Regards,
Jimmy

Hi guys,
Just a quick note on the MPL. I'm up the walls for the last few weeks and for the rest of this week. 15/16 hour days don't leave me with a lot of free time at the moment. But next week i will be putting the finishing touches to this years league. Also, there will be no Div 3 competition. Sorry.
Thank you all for your patience.

Hello All,
Firstly, apologies for the lack of contact over the last few weeks. I just submitted my thesis yesterday so up until then I had very little time for sleep, not to mention Polo.
Ok, now that i can finally get around to sorting this out, I just want to confirm the position with regards to this years entries.
After discussing this with past organisers of this event, I have decided that preference will be given to teams who played last year. I know that this is far from ideal and do doubt will be an unpopular decision for many, but I need to get this organised as quickly as possible and this is the quickest way of doing it.
I have managed to get contact details for most of the Div 1 teams from last year, and have contacted them. (if you haven't heard from me and played last year, get in touch with me at 086 8385356). I haven't contacted any of the Div 2 teams yet as its proving difficult to get contact details. I will be working on that this weekend so expect a call from me over the next two days.
Again, I’m sorry about the entry process this year but unfortunately, its unavoidable.
The Limerick open will take place on the first weekend in may. And I'll be prepared for that one.
Jimmy

Just a suggestion......but if it's proving so difficult to contact the teams from last year......how about opening up entries to everybody and after the closing date, if you have more entries than places, then at that stage offer the spaces to teams from last year first.......at least that way you put the onus on teams to contact you....less work for the organisers!

GrainneOK

Yeah!!!! Riverfest in Limerick is May Bank Hol as usual, 5-7th May 2007

Hey folks, it's coming together.
Just to make sure I haven't left anyone out, could the captains of last years teams, both div1 and div 2 (Especially spectre and snakebite) please email me at jimmyoloughlinATgmailDOTcom.
I just want captains name team name for this year and a contact phone number. I will then phone you all individually

thank you

It's only 10 days until the first Limerick date.... Can you at least post up what teams have to be there for this first weekend??

I'm presuming all the teams have not yet been individually contacted as our team has heard nothing and we were definitely entered last year and have sent on our contact details several times at this stage.....

Ruth (contact for last years' "Killer Hangovers", as long as Yvo is busy looking for Ollifants)

Obviously with that system in place lots of people and teams got I’ll say not impressed. Teams that have been playing regularly during the season at all tournaments couldn’t secure place in the Munster league only because played under different name last issue of the league. It is obvious that next year more and more team will be left out if the current system still in place.

Is it obvious that in the last number of years and specially in the last two the level of the Irish canoe polo have risen a lot, more tournaments, more people getting involved which reflects at the presentation of the national squads internationally.

Perhaps re-introducing of the national league will be base for admitting teams which have accumulated enough points and play regularly. For example that will be the criteria for the Docklands 2007. Places will be limited and place will be secured by teams played on most of the tournaments during 2006 not only one tournament.

I strongly support the introduction of the national league I’ll vote with my two hands.

Talk to you later
Nik

We tried to introduce the Nat League twice over the last four years. The first time about 4 teams registered over the 3 division, the second time about 2 teams registered before the closing date. Teams need to get their finger out about these things when they are rolled out for them.
I think having a nat league is a good idea and would stop the player hopping between teams that has been happening over the last 4 years, although it was not as bad this year as it has been.

I agree with Conor on this. The last time the National league was attempted the committee and the organisers of the competitions rolled over for the players just to see no interest. We can continue to try (and should) but since polo teams are not really club based (only with 2-3 exceptions) maybe it is time to try a different model.
We can wait for more club based teams (which seems to be happening) or go to a brit system with league seperated from weekend comps. Which one day or evening leagues (such as limerick is doing), would be an option.

Excuse the rambling nature of post. Just forming ideas on the hoof :-)

Ok, guys,
With regards to the Munster Polo League, for the very last time, the number of teams that can enter is dictated not by me or any other member of ULKC (a kayak club not a Polo club) but by the university arena. I can not in any way accommodate everyone so it was decided to do things this way as, at the time, it was the most equitable way of doing it.
Also, as I have said on this board, I am really really busy these days so it's proving difficult to contact everyone individually about every matter. Apologies for that.
Finally, it looks like this year; every team should be playing every night. The competition starts at six so I would expect the teams to arrive for that time. I will post the timetable over the weekend.
Regards,
Jimmy,

Hey Guys
Night Two of the MPL takes place this Saturday Dec 2. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Teams not playing this saturday are Cyclones and Rubber Duckies

As you all saw the last night, the time table is really very tight, so I'd appreciate it if the team on duty has two refs ready before the start of the game they are due to ref. Thank you. This issue caused some delays last time so I may have to look into docking points from teams that don't supply refs on time. Hopefully it won't be an issue this time though:)

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Here is the League Table after night two of the MPL.

Also, Swink left without paying the last night! I'm down €105. To avoid future confusion I will be asking for money before teams get on the water. Thank you.

Just a very quick reminder that the next MPL night takes place on the 6th of Jan. This is different to the original Jan date that was posted, however, I emailed all the captains with the correct list of dates before the comp started so hopefully you were all aware of this change.
See you all on the 6th.

I'm not going to be there this week so you are not to go and win all the matches to make me feel bad! did we not draw with someone - i'm sure we at least had a few moral victories :)

Effe
31-01-2007, 06:51 PM
yep, lots of moral victories! I don't really count the first 3 games as losses as we only had 4 players and still held our own. 2 more nights, 6 more games..... we can still come out of this with a majority of wins

Or at least enjoy enjoy the consolation pints

Is it possible to get the results for the league? I would like to post them on canoepolo.com and the ICU publicity officer is after them.

In order for us to publicise competitions and events we need the details the day after the competition.

Can someone please tell me who is organising the Limerick competiton and get them to call me.
