Hi, my friend and I are doing some traveling in the UK after worlds and we are having the hardest time figuring out a way to get from amsterdam to some rail line in England to use our Britrail passes. We were thinking of catching a ferry across. I've looked into going from hook of holland, but can't find decent rates. Does anyone know the cheapest way to get across for 2 foot passengers? I've tried searching various ferry search engine websites but I don't understand half the stuff it asks for (cabin berth size??) and the prices come to over 200 euros!! ridiculous! there must be a better way for a one way trip across. any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Steph,

If I was you I would fly from Amsterdam to for instance: London. Look at for instance http://www.easyjet.com/splash.asp?lang=en for rates. About the same price (if your trying) as the ferry but much faster. This depends off course where in Brittan you want to go.

With a quick search I found an offer at the Stena Line site (ferry) A one way ticket from any train station in the Netherlands will cost you between 35 and 65 euros. Here is the link, http://www.stenaline.com/stena_line/home_-_netherlands/book_online/online_reservations/gb/great_britain_by_foot.html (http://www.stenaline.com/stena_line/home_-_netherlands/book_online/online_reservations/gb/great_britain_by_foot.html) but they provide more information only in Dutch

I think it will be no problem to get to the UK from Amsterdam for say 60 euro or less.

What about Eurolines, the European bus network? No idea about prices but take a look at www.eurolines.com (http://www.eurolines.com)
Cheap flights also available at BMIbaby: www.bmibaby.com (http://www.bmibaby.com)
Good luck

Or you can just turn up at the ferry terminal and purchase a ticket as a walk on passanger. Most ferry companies will allow that at the port. This should also cut out booking fees etc, but then again, the greedy gits will probably charge anyway... Or you might pick up a cheap flight nearer the time..
