Has anyone else tried to get an individual scholarship at their states institute of sport? anyone successful? I just got my letter telling me i didn't get in, even though I looked pretty good on paper (not hard when it's canoe polo  ). I think EVERY ONE should go down and apply for one next time round just to show them that there is a few of us, promote ourselves to them a bit. Then maybe they might take us more seriously. I'm pretty sure one of the major reasons that i got knocked back was because i play canoe polo, and i think if more people applied they would take a bit more notice and we would be in with a better chance. :headbang:
Some states will only give a scholarship if you play an Olympic sport (or netball). Go figure...

yeh, SA gets a pretty decent run. i think all the open Aus team guys that played at Oceania got High Performance scholarships, and a bunch of the U21s got talent scholarships, not sure how many, i did and i know of atleast 1 other that definately did, and probably more
make sure you apply for the right sort of scholarship, playing state comps and stuff you will probably need to apply for a talent, or something similar scholarship, you wont get a look in for high performance if your not on open national teams, i beleive. Thats how it is here at any rate. It also depends how much money goes to other canoeing disciplines aswell. if lots gets put into flatwater and stuff for a world champs year or wateva, ur less likely to get the money for polo.
hope thats helped a bit.

umm, we are just starting to get back into it. the guys going for oceania that is. its a bit early for nationals still, or well, its earlier than we usually start at any rate. its a bit hard atm though, coz most of the driving force behind trainings and stuff are over seas atm. so its kinda left to the young guys to try and run it for next little bit, so we will see what happens. i know a few of us have enjoyed the break. especially the guys that were training for worlds squad and stuff, coz it was fairly heavy load before easter.
as for the road trip, it went pretty well, i was sick for most of the time tho, which was anoiying and i had a massive headache for about 4 days straight, coz of air matresses and whatnot playing havoc with my shoulders, and the way home was like ridiculously painfull coz of it. but otherwise it was pretty awesome. i assume you guys were all regailed about the adventures of the porter brothers... Steve Porter and the Porcelain Bus i beleive it was called
:P
