Hey there.
Just a question I forgot to ask during the captain's meeting, but how will the opens competition be structured? is it that the top 2 of each group will proceed to the quarter/semi-finals? will there be an additional round or last chance qualifiers for the 3rd placings of each group?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Bryan

The recently concluded world cup had similar fixtures for its single elimination format too isn't it? Just wondering why there is a need for group A and B teams to play with group C and D ones, rather than asking why not...

Hi
Sorry for taking so long to upload this! To All Captains, please take a look at the schedule. There will be some schools that will be playing back to back (NP mens followed by a NP womens team). I've allocated 20mins per game. So there will be sufficient time for such cases to change boats. Please do not request to change your slot in these circumstances. Teams will have at least 1 hour between each of their matches.
I've only put the officials for Day 1. The rest will be filled up when the schedule has been finalised.
I will only be entertaining requests for changes from the captains. Please let me know by Sunday, midnight. No changes will be made after this date.
Note: Changes will be on a case to case basis.
Thank you!

another team withdrawal? reminds me of SRRR. :wavey:
Since the team lists have already been confirmed and submited by all the teams, this means that the players in the withdrawn team will NOT be allowed to join and play ANY other teams registered in this tournament right?
If they are allowed to, doesn't this mean all the teams can still change their players?
Thanks in advance for answering my queries. Cheers!

Hi
To All Team Captains, please ensure that all players fill in the indemnity form attached. Print out a hard copy and submit on the First day of the competition. One form per person (ie. if someone plays IVP and Opens, ONE form is sufficient). You can submit the forms when the team registers for their first match.
Please do not send us a soft copy. We will not print it out for you.
Players who do not submit their indemnity form will NOT BE ALLOWED to play until it is submitted.
Thank you!

Hi,
This year, we are having a major shortage of referees due to NS, other committments as well as some referees with their certs already expired.
Due to this problem, we are having difficulties arranging who refs which games. We are trying not to put female refs for Mens games as far possible (lots of problems from last yr's Nat Champs). We cannot put people to ref matches that are just before or after their own match.
So, I am asking everyone if they mind those with expired ref certs to continue refereeing for this year's Nat Champs. Currently we have only 20 qualified refs. If those with expired certs ref, we will having around 27.
Referees whose certs have expired and do not wish to ref, please let me know.
Thank you

Hi
Due to constraints, we have to cut short the competition period.
Thus, Day 1 (26th Aug - Sat) will start at 1pm and end at 5pm. We have shifted several matches around (not just shift them down as some teams will be playing more than twice which is unfair to them). I've removed all walkover matches to save time.
I know that there are players playing for more than one team (IVP and Opens). I tried to schedule it so that the MAJORITY of the players will not play back to back games. For teams who have players in more than 2 teams (eg. IVP players – some on Opens team 1 and some in Opens team 2), I cannot accommodate all players as there are just too many.
Please be punctual for your matches. Teams MUST register at least 3 matches before theirs (1 hour before), except those who play the first few matches of the day (just register before your match).Teams who fail to register at least 3 matches will be DISQUALIFIED (walkover).
Teams may start getting ready for their game (get into the boats) once the match before theirs begin their second half. Enter only by the goal line. Do not enter by the side line. Different teams from the same school (ie. NP1 and NP2) having consecutive matches will be given a few minutes to facilitate the change over of boats. We seek the co-operation of everyone to do this quickly as the time given in between games is only 5 minutes. Please also refrain from doing any ball passing or other activities that may interfere with the ongoing game.
Team managers/captains can register as early as they wish. However, identification must be presented upon registration as well as the indemnity form (first day/registration).
There will be a short team managers’ briefing on the first day (26th Aug) to discuss official duties as well as pass you all the official SCF receipt for the team registration. The meeting will be held at SPE, 11am.
Scrutineering will commence on Saturday 26th Aug at 9am and will end at 12pm. Equipment to be scrutineered includes boats, paddles, helmets and PFDs.
Thank you!

Thank you for pointing that out. I have swapped your match to the 1000 - 1020 slot, and had to change several other teams so that they will have sufficient rest. Other teams please take note and take a look at the schedule again. Sorry for changing it AGAIN. :(
I have also tried my best to accomodate to the other school's requests. Here is the FINAL MATCH SCHEDULE. NO MORE REQUESTS WILL BE ENTERTAINED UNLESS THAT TEAM (not individual player(s)) IS PLAYING BACK TO BACK AS MENTIONED ABOVE.
As I have stated before, players playing for two teams may have to play several matches (3-4) a day. Please remember that the competition spans only 4 and a half days. I have to squeeze the matches!
Under officials, the school/team mentioned for that particular match will just have to send representatives to help out as goalline judge, score and timekeeper. Details will be provided at the team managers' meeting on Sat 26th at 11am, SPE.
I thank you all for your kind understanding and patience with us.

Hi all,
Sorry! But there will be NO ref shirts issued this year. (There was none left at SCF). So sorry! However, please use the ones issued last year. If you do not have one, any other black shirt will do.
We have referee cards for those who do not have their own. We also have black FOX whistles, but please try to use your own due to hygenic purposes. Thank you for your understanding!

Orders handed in after 1030am or without payment will not be processed due to insufficient time to prepare the food and also to prevent delays to other teams' order.

Hi all,
Day 1 of Pesta Sukan went relatively ok. Here are some requests/changes we will implement for the remaining competition.
1. Note to ALL TEAMS. The officials had to constantly call for teams to register for their match. Please note you have to register for every match you are playing. Bring along the team's identification card (or equivalent). You no longer are required to write their IC no. Register the WHOLE team together. For Day 2, we will not hestitate to DISQUALIFY TEAMS who do not register on time (3 matches before hand).
2. Goalpost. The net will have a slit so that the ball can easily drop out. We apologise for wasting so much time. Goals will still be pretty obvious so do not worry. The goalposts will also be made more secure so that it will not keep tilting to one side.
3. Only the official Pesta Sukan Competition ball (Pesta Sukan written on it) can be used during the matches. The goal line judge will be the one to hold onto the ball. Do not suddenly throw in your own school's/team's polo ball.
4. Coaches/team managers are requested to refrain from walking up and down the swimming pool as this will affect the referee's concentration.
5. Schools on duty for the official table (2 goal line judge, 1 score keeper, 1 timekeeper) please check when you have to report and not wait for us to announce.
Any other feedback is most welcomed as it can help us to make the competition run smoother and better!
Thank you
Denise

Updated my website (below) with one photo from the NP-TP Men's IVP match. Scary!
hi guys out there, i strongly urge all referees for this year's national champs to be more firm with their decisions made. Especially games on last sunday.. there were a few matches where the referees are not in control of the game. As a referee, i think your decision is final so stick with it, do not get influence by decisions or comments from the spectators stand. Nevertheless, its a job well done for all referees so far in the national tournament.. Three more weekends to go... jiayou!

P.S. A gentle reminder for ALL TEAMS. Register your team members early. There are SO SO SO many teams registering just before their match. Please come to the registration table prepared with the names and their PFD numbers.
Qualified referees, please come even if you do not have games that day. We are seriously facing a shortage of people to ref for the matches.
Thank yoU!

hi guys out there, i strongly urge all referees for this year's national champs to be more firm with their decisions made. Especially games on last sunday.. there were a few matches where the referees are not in control of the game. As a referee, i think your decision is final so stick with it, do not get influence by decisions or comments from the spectators stand. Nevertheless, its a job well done for all referees so far in the national tournament.. Three more weekends to go... jiayou!

Hi,
The points system will be in accordance to the official ICF Canoe Polo Rules and Regulations 2005.
From Chapter 2.10: League Points and Positions
4. Three (3) points are awarded for a win, two (2) points for a draw, one (1) point for a loss, and zero (0) points if a team misses a game.
5. Where two or more teams have gained the same number of points, they shall be ranked in order according to the following procedures:
Goal difference; (Goal difference: Overall Goals Scored minus Overall Goals Conceded)
Total number of Goals scored;
Results of game between the two teams within that group;
Goal percentage; (Overall Goals Scored divided by Overall Goals Conceded).
Play Off, if possible;
Goal Penalty Shoot Out, if possible.
(If one team has had a game conceded to them by another team, and the other team on the same points have actually played this conceding team, then both of these results will be discounted for this differentiation).
Please note that the group results will only be posted once ALL ROUND ROBIN matches are over (this Saturday). Team managers please check the schedule to see if you have advanced to the next round!

Hi all
Here's the Score table (Full timetable with Results) and the Grouping Results.
I've also posted up the timetable for tomorrow's match. Referees please check what time your match is and come for it (esp those which start in the morning). Thanks!
FYI: Men's Quarter Finals (OMQ) will still be 7-1-7. For all semi-final rounds (including IVP) will be 10-3-10.
For IVP, the top points scorer will go straight into finals to compete for 1st place. 2nd, 3rd and 4th will go through another round robin. Top point scorer will go to fight for 1st place and the remaining 2 teams will fight for 3rd.
If you have any questions about the point system or if there are any mistakes in the results table attached, please sms me asap at 81800369!
Thank you!

hey, this is eunice from TP.
i would also like to comment on the refereeing this year. im a referee myself, and being inexperienced i understand how the referees feel towards calling for fouls during games esp guys games with a much faster pace. but as a player i also understand how impt a referee is.
because one call can differ who wins or lose.
so i hope whoever the referee is, try to stick to your decision. esp if its a critical one.
in order to be a ref you have to be certified and i know all the refs are. so you have the right to make a call if you think its right. stop time, talk abt it. its better den letting it go causing the disadvantaged team to feel demoralised or maybe cause them to lose.
a ref is supposed to be fair. i rather a fair game than a safe or smooth game. quote juju. cos a fair game would mean a safe game as well.
other than that i also suggest that refs for a game shldnt have two refs from the same school. i know that such situations maybe due to because there isnt referees around.
so referees who are supposed to ref, i hope that everyone can be cooperative towards this competition. because even though NP is organising it. it doesnt mean that they have to do everything themselves and also having to keep reminding refs that they are supposed to be refereeing.
such cooperation would make things easier for the organisers and also make the competition a smoother one.
lastly can i also urge the officials at the official table not to support any team even if their team is playing.
because as officials are supposed to be neutral.
if you want to cheer and shout please take it to the spectator's stand.
other then that, theres only one more weekend till the whole competition is over and each teams go their seperate ways again.
i hope that competitions are not only for competing but also building good relationships. though there are inevitable rivalries, wouldnt games be much better with a competitive yet fair and sporting environment?
anyway.
we're all here for the love of the sport.

Yes, to all the refs, please check the time which you are suppose to ref. I know it's kinda sian to come so early when you're match starts later. So I'm asking for your cooperation to come anyway. It's not fair to the other refs to replace someone and have to ref and play later. =)
Congrats to the teams who made it to the finals. I will post up Day 5 schedule and Day 4 results SOON. (by tonight)

Hi,
this is kelvin from NUS. I agree that shouting and cheering should be kept to the spectator stands.. Even "jeering" can also be tolerated as long as the spectators do not do or say anything to affect the games.
I saw from last saturday's and sunday's games..that some of the spectators were counting the clock down even the actual timing wasn't ending yet. Although it didnt not happen to me...I feel it is an extremely UNSPORTSMANSHIP behaviour of those spectators who did that. If u want to cheer or even jeer, go ahead as long as u don't affect the people playing the games. YOUR (fake) counting down can affect the last intended play and the possible outcome of the game.
WIN or LOSE, let the actual strengths of the 2 teams to determine that.. not by small tricks that the spectators WHO are outsiders to affect it.
I feel that the REFEREES or the ORGANISERS should take a more active role in preventing such a thing from happening.
Just put yourself in the same situation.. if u are planning to go for the win or maybe a draw..( u cannot be looking at the clock all the time) u hear the crowd counting down and U took a shot because the clock is winding down instead of setting up a play for a better, higher percentage shot.. and lost as a result.. then u realise the time is not up yet.. I am sure u will be furious.. Maybe u haven't been in such a situation yet.. but i'm sure if u are in that situation, u wouldnt want it to happen to u.
just my 2 cents..
Hope that this won't happen again in the future games.
Also not forgetting to thank the organisers who have made this a succesful championship so far.. keep up the good work..

hi,
hazel from TP as well..
i believe jeering and cheering is all part of the competition atmosphere but there also shld be a limit.
to see the officials cheering for playing team=not fair
spectators affecting play=not fair
goal-line judges not doing their job=not fair
i believe this incidents have occured before juz tt dis yr it seems more out of hand.
for the few yrs i have attended competitions, i haven seen the spectators affect the play so bad such tt the time was SO NOT wat was on the big clock but the poor referees trusted the crowd so much tt they din check the time on their own and juz blew the whistle.
for the fact that we are gathered at a common place twice a yr is truly for the love of the game(quote eu)
although there might be unpleasantness in the play but i believe out of the pool there can be frenships evolving. its juz a matter of time.
watever it is, i hope that for the last weekend of the Nat Champs, every single one can display true sportsmenship and the competition like every other can be a memorable one in a positive look.

Here's the match schedule for the refs and officials.
To the refs:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come down on time to ref your duty. Last Sunday (DAY 4) the first 4 matches had a serious shortage of refs and other refs had to take over cos there were NO ONE ELSE! Refereeing a match can be as tiring as playing one, so it is NOT FAIR on him/her to ref 2 games consistently and neither is it fair for the teams playing the next match as the ref is probably tired and may not be able to focus entirely on the game.
It is very frustrating to call for the refs repeatedly and to only see their teammates at the grand stand shake their head saying that you are not there yet. Can you imagine if you had to suddenly just ask some other person to take over??!?! I've been doing that for the past 2 weekends!!!!
As this Saturday is the finals, I really really hope that everyone can co-operate with us. Those schools who need to officiate, remember 1 goal line judge AT LEAST at each side. Last Sunday there were some illegal substituition but the goal line judges did not catch it. And if you do, be firm about your decision as the ref will card according to who you identified as doing the illegal sub. Please be be alert. I know it is very hard to keep your eye on the line esp when the action is on the other side, but the teams playing are counting on you to catch such fouls which the referees cannot.
I shall not comment on the standard of the refereeing in Singapore because I myself know how hard it is to be one, and I'm not a good ref either. So players out there, just listen to the ref. Calls made are based on the ref's knowledge of the rules and are obviously subjective. They stand by the side of the pool and mostly see more than you do. Just play the game and stop complaining. However, if one ref is not agreeable to the call made (esp those critical ones - corner/goal line restart, GPS, goal etc), please time out and consult with each other.
Everyone has a role to play in making this competition a success and not just the organisers.

P.S. The only way we can communicate to everyone is through the microphone.
So ...
As for the jeering and cheering etc, we cannot suddenly just make an announcement in the middle of a game to tell them to tone down. We can do it only during half-time etc and usually by then it's over. So, if it happens again, we will remind everyone during the breaks / half time not to do that.
Referees, you have the power to call for timeouts whenever. So by your better judgement, if things are going out of hand, please help us take control as well.
Thank yoU!

there has been a terrible delay of the printing of shirts because of the printing company.
1. the design had been submitted to them, but they took at least a month before they got back to us.
2. when they finally got back to us, they told us we had to edit the design and said that they were very busy.
3. when we replied, they took another month long to get back to us, and said that the costs had gone up. therefore exceeding the budget.
4. more edits had to be done to lower the costs, but it was still over budget, and as usual. they are still a busy busy company.
so, we have switched distributors to one that is hopefully more efficient and cost effective.
so sorry for the long wait and inconveniences caused.

just a suggestion. add in a SRRR 2007 thingy in the design.
if i dun think the players wish to get a so outdated design as their competition shirt.
mayb just return them the money to save the trouble. we all know that you guys did alot of hard work in this competition. but sometimes things just dun go smoothly as you expected. this draggy shirt thingy is such a bother. forget about it man.
