Hi,

How many people and boats are we talking about?
Maybe we can work something out to help you guys.
Renting a van is a possibility I guess.. don't know what your budget is?
Taking boats on the train is possible sometimes, but if you ask the Dutch railway company, they say it's not allowed.. And taking boats for a whole team would be a problem I guess..

Club vans aren't very common over here..

In fact, I don't know any club here that owns one..
Renting a van with 9 seats will cost a little less than 100 euros a day I guess, renting a van with roofrack is difficult, so you might have to borrow/rent a boat trailer from a canoeclub.

If not renting a van it would be a bit harder for you guys to get to where you want to go.. and it will be a bigger problem to bring your boats and stuff using public transport.

So renting a van (or two cars) would be the most convenient for you guys by far! What was the problem with renting?

since i am 45 it no problem for one van but two vehicle might be a problem since one driver be under 21. a boat trailer would be nice but i doubt a rental car would have a trailer hitch.

thanks for the help, mark

Hi,

I life 20 km from downtown Amsterdam and I drive a six-seat van with a roofrack.
So maybe I can help you!
I can take 8 polo-boats on my roofrack + all the equiptment (helmets, paddles, camping gear etc.) in the back of my van. Inside is room for 5 people(+ the driver = total 6).

If you pay for the fuell (It will be around 100 euro's to go to Ieper and back). I can bring all your equiptment to the tournament near Ieper.

Probably we can arrange something to pick you up in Ieper 1 week later and get you back to Amsterdam.

Ben.

I play in a Belgian polo-team (KNRS). We play in second division at the Ieper tournament.
I'll leave Amsterdam on Friday the 28th of july.
At the end of the weekend I'll go back home (have to work from Monday till Friday).

But if you like I can come back to Ieper and pick you up on Sunday evening the 6th of august and bring you back to Amsterdam.

hi ben, first off thank you very much for your help. I have a couple more questions:

1) what time do you plan to leave for the ieper tournament on friday 28?
2) how long of drive is it from the amsterdam to ieper and from the second tournament back to amsterdam?

we are planning to stay at the etap hotel on the thurs. 27 near the airport. i think all the u21 players will be there by thurs. a couple of player still have to get flights. i have been tring to get reseveration from the organizing committee for worlds but have not heard back from them.

thanks again so much for your help, mark poindexter

Hi Mark,

I leave for the Ieper tournament on Friday evening, around 18h00. Normally it takes around 3h15min to get there from Amsterdam.

From the second tournament (at Veurne) back to Amsterdam will also take around 3 hours.

Are you trying to get reservation for an airflight or for the Etap hotel?
I have a phonenumber from the Etap hotel, so I can always give them a call to get some information for you.

thanks ben, i have just email the hotel directly. if that does not work i will have you look into it. we also are tring to rent a army tent at ieper tournement for the week. do you know who Serge Vandeputte is? he email me a couple times but i have not hear back from him lately. what i might do is have a couple of the u21's take the small rent car to ieper early so they can get all the logistics done and i will ride with you and the kids and gear at 6P.M. how does that sound.

you are the best travel agent ever.
thanks mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, I know Serge Vandeputte. I'll try to contact him by email or telephone. If Serge cannot arrange a tent for you, we might try a local boy-scout group. They often use army tents when they go camping. I'll let you know soon.

hi ben , mark poindexter here, i just wanted to see if your email worked. i have a couple of ?'s too?

1) is everything good with you driving us to and from tournaments(it works for us).
2) i checked into reserving the etap hotel directly and i found they do not have any rooms left. could you do me a favor and talk to the organizer and see if they reserved rooms for USA u-21 team? i sent my resevation form in 3 weeks ago and a couple more times after that and i have not heard anything back from them.
3) could you also ask them if any of the other usa teams got rooms?
4) could you check with serge and see if they have a large army yet?
you are the men, i hear back from you but not much from the others thanks for your help.
