Hi, I am from the Essex University Watersports Club, we are interested in setting up a canoe polo branch of our canoe section, but we a) have no pool facilities big enough b) have no coach c) have no equipment.
Could anyone suggest where to start???
Please email me at uesa@essex.ac.uk
www.uesa.org.uk is the Uni Watersports Website :)
Cheers

To start up, a pool is not really needed.
We train outside for about 8 out 12 months, which is just fine ...
For the equipment, you'd need some boats (plastic, ~500€ new x 10 (2 teams)), paddles (you could use other paddles if you have), at least 1 ball (~40€) and that's it ...
You can start with this an a lake or something, ...
Goals are interesting too after a while :p
There exists some plans for floating goals for around 1000€ each.
So basically, count on ~8000€ investment ...
You could take out the boats if you have WW boats or something (in the beginning) ...
A coach ? We don't have a coach either and we are doing fine ...
Just appoint someone (who's willing to) to give training and exercises.

I know in Ireland the national committee have a trailer of boats and gear which they rent to developing clubs at a low rental rate. The boats are then removed to be available at club competitions for beginners to use. Maybe the BCU have a similar set up or if they don't it might be an idea to support clubs in this way

Hey!
I'm from Loughborough Univesrity Canoe club, we've been playing for a while now, and if you fancy a game we'd be happy to meet up on either a pool session evening, or a weekend to get some practice in!
Also try and enter the BUSA Championships this year (or at least come and watch) I'm sure that will help.
