Do other countries have a problem with teams scratching there games on the last day of competitions?

was at a comp last weekend and we missed out on playing 2 games because 2 teams scratched their games, (excuses such as: too early/sick/want to go home!):(

so was just wondering if there is anything that can be done to stop this happening so regularly and what other comp organisers do to stop it or is it unstopable !

can national committee stop these teams entering? is that FAR too EXTREME!

its just a little annoyance in my life i thought i'd mention:mad: all comments appreciated

I would consider blackballing or exclusion of future partecipation not only those teams scratching their games on the last day of competitions but also those which pull out of tournaments on very short notice. This ban from any future Comp for those offending teams should be put in force for at least a couple of years.

In this way these culprits will have to gain back their 'brownie points' the hard way if they ever would like returning again to that particular venue again, to regain trust in them not to screw-up the overall programming of the tournament again.

It is not fair to both the organisers and the other teams, the latter which may travel long distances to play, to later find out that they have won some games with a walkover instead of actually playing all their matches.

I believe that by being firm and drastic with these 'offenders' you will give a clear message both to them and any other teams who might want to do the same thing in the future.

You can also consider finishing the comp a bit early on, giving those teams who have travelled a long distance to have some more time to get back home eliminating one of the most frequent reasons of their defection.

Believe me that unless you get rid of this problem in a positive and determined way, it may occur again in other future comp that you will organise.

On an afterthought, if my last suggestion is not sufficient food for thought, then may I add, that you could consider 'naming and shaming' those clubs by posting their generalities on this and other major websites for all to see.

This would hopefully create a deterrent for those clubs to think twice before considering abandoning early their commitments wherever they go to play.

Someone has to start the ball rolling, So...

...With just four days to our International, we have now been put in the situation with having one Italian team AMICI DEL FIUME, Division II from Piemonte scratching their registered presence from our comp.

This leaves us with one team short on very short notice.....

As no team likes to win their games by a table decision of 5-0 instead of actually playing their match, this is an appeal to any team/single players who would like to sub at our tournament this coming weekend at San Giorgio di Nogaro, Italy (nearest airport Trieste International). Please know that any help would to get us out of this situation would be well appreciated.

Even having a team made up of players from different clubs would help resolve our problem!

Thanks!

....and if that team's pull out was not bad, what d'you all think about another Italian team CANOA SAN MINIATO, newly promoted to Division 1 from Tuscany, scratching their registered presence from the tournament just 2 (:thumbdown ) days away?

Enough to give anybody daytime nightmares. Sport ethics seems to be an unknown animal in this part of the world to some, eh?

The two errant Italian teams did not make a dent in our tournament as we managed to make up their loss by inserting into the programme two make-shift teams thanks to the collaboration of the local CANOA SAN GIORGIO team who contributed a second B team, and thanks to a second mixed team made up from extra players from all the other entered teams. The second team we rightly called 'EUROMIX'.

These two teams, obviously were not playing for any classification but were formed just to permit those other teams in their groups (one per group) to actually play games and not just to have won with a walk-over score of 5-0.

I would like to thank all these people for their sensibility in understanding the problems that we organisers have when errant teams fail to show up; luckily for us, the rest of the tournament went ahead smoothly and successfully.

Thank you all for your help!
