Is anyone interested in having a Christmas Canoe Polo camp in Edmonton over perhaps Dec 28,29,30,2002? Let me know. Right now 8 people have indicated they are.

I have 10 people respond saying that yes they are interested. Dale is looking at pool times and we will have to set up some dryland times also. So soon we will know if it is a go, but things are looking good.

Will there be a U21 or youth component, or is it only elite?

I am working with Dale and Brad on this but it is looking that the focus will be on younger people 14-~21 and less on the adults. It will happen and the details are coming soon. Looks like Dec 27,28,29 with dry land in the morning and 3 hour comp pool at night.

Apologies if you get this email more than once. I have a number of different email lists and in some cases, people are duplicated.
Have a very Merry Christmas,

To all Alberta Youth please note this important event taking place after Christmas:

The Provincial Canoe Polo Committee was greatly impressed by the amount of talented young paddlers at the Summer Games in Camrose this past summer. We would like to build on this positive momentum. The purpose of this note is to announce a XMAS YOUTH TRAINING CAMP, which will be run in Edmonton at the Kinsmen Pool this December 27, 28 & 29 for kids ages 14 to 19 years. The registration cost for the camp per individual will be $20. Travel to Edmonton outside 50 kilometers will be reimbursed by the AWA (receipts required. Pick up form at the camp for reimbursement at a later date). All polo equipment will be supplied. Billets will be arranged for those that need a place to stay. The purpose of the camp is to educate and build the skills and interest of young paddlers that may be interested in a number of the Canoe Polo opportunities that are coming up over the next few years. Potential members of future National Under 21 and senior teams will have to start now to have the time to learn and improve their level of skill and fitness. This is not to say that these young players must focus totally on polo to the exclusion of other paddling disciplines; however involvement in National Polo Teams will involve qualification in both fitness, paddling and polo skills and only the best will make it. More of the best are in Alberta than anywhere else so expect competition for positions. The camp will be coached by current members of the Senior Men, Womens and Under 21 Squads currently in Alberta.

The Camp is open to but not limited by Summer Games participants. Any young paddler in Alberta, boy or girl between the ages of 14 and 19 are eligible to participate. Coaches please note: no beginners. Previous polo or slalom experience is best.

The camp schedule is as follows:
Dec. 27 Noon Meet in Snack Bar at Kinsmen for Registration, then Dryland 1pm - 3 pm .; Pool 7 pm -9 pm (paddlers need to be on the deck at 6:30 pm for warm-up).
Dec. 28 Dryland 10:45 am - 12:45 pm; Snack Bar for lunch (money needed) and talk. till 2 pm.; Pool 7 pm - 9 pm (on deck at 06:30 pm).
Dec. 29 Dryland 9:45 am - 11:45 am (Snack bar for 1/2 hr. lunch break then, Officials Room on pool deck for talk. at 12:30 pm till 1:30 pm. Pool 6 pm - 8 pm and camp wrap up.

Please note that Alberta is the center of Canoe Polo activity in Canada. Since 1994 with the first World Championship in Sheffield, England and continuing every two years since, Albertans have comprised the major portion of ALL National Canoe Polo Teams with close to forty players involved. Players who are interested and have the dedication will have a VERY REAL OPPORTUNITY to participate in one or more of the following events that are on the near and distant canoe polo horizon.

1) International Cup of the North Edmonton, Alberta Feb 21-23,2003
2) Canadian National Canoe Polo Championships Whistler, BC June 28,29,2003
3) USA National Championships, Los Angeles, CA October 11,12,2003
4) Continental Cup of the Americas, Los Angeles, CA October 18,19,2003
5) World Canoe Polo Championships, Miyoshi, Japan July 21-25,2004
6) World Masters Games, Edmonton, Alberta July- August 2005
7) Continental Cup of the Americas, South America 2006
8) World Canoe Polo Championships, Amsterdam, Netherlands 2006
9) Continental Cup of the Americas, Dallas, Texas 2008 (pending confirmation)
10) World Canoe Polo Championships, Edmonton, Canada 2008 (pending ICF)

Registration can be made via email to Dale O'Brien email: dalob@shaw.ca or 780-434-9192. Please try to register interest by December 20,2002.

Please note: For any members of national teams who want to be at this camp you must be in attendance for dryland and water sessions to help coach. During the last hour of the three-hour pool booking, the pool will be available for national team members. Please advise Dale O’Brien of your intention to provide coaching help.
