Hi, I will be in New Zealand from the 12th December to the 31st December and was wondering if there is possibly a club that I could train with.

I am 14 years old and currently play for Meridian Canoe Club in London. I play in both a Mens and Youth team. The youth team are currently National Champions and we have an important tournament when I return to retain our title.

I will be touring the South Island before Christmas and in the Rotorua area from Christmas to the 31st. I am prepared to bring spraydeck but would need to borrow all other equipment.

Is there anyone who can help me?

Olly Thomson

p.s I was recommended by Andi and Aaron Fear-Ross to post on here for help!

Hi Everyone,

Olly is a good lad and an up and coming player in our club, he would be at an ability level to play in senior club sessions and not drop the standard of them.

Olly - are you able to elaborate a bit further as to where you will be in the South Island and when?

Hi Olly,

I am currently living in Auckland but will be moving to Nelson (top of the South Island) in a couple of weeks. I have to train as well so if you are coming through Nelson I'm sure I'll be able to help you out, Tanz is in Nelson too and she's always keen for training.

Hi Olly

Let me know when you are going to be in Christchurch (where Andi and Aaron lived before they moved to the UK) and we'll make sure you have plenty of training with Aaron's old team.
Cheers

Hi Olly,

We are probably the only group training regularly in the North Island. The Vikings/ Valkyries rain every wednesday and friday nights 5.30-7.30pm in Palmerston North.

We also have a group who train during the day at lunch times

drop me a line if we can help

It's nice that you guys rain, James, but I'm not sure an Englishman would need more of that sort of weather.

Have fun down the south end of the country, Olly. Auckland's indoor pools and regular competition are nowhere near the Rotorua area.

:wavey: Thanks Vishy. I am trying to get away from the rain.

I am currently planning to arrive in Christchurch on the 13th December for a couple of days, then off touring. Return to Christchurch on the 22nd December before going back to the North Island (Levin) on the 24th for Christmas Day.

On the 26th we are off to the Rotorua area to stay with friends, returning on Friday the 30th, before flying home on the 31st December.

If possible therefore, could I train in Christchurch in the first part of my holiday, then at Palmerston North with Vickings on Friday 30th?

I will need details of when, where and how to find you.

At the start of the thread I said that I will bring my splashdeck, but will need to borrow a kayak, BA and helmet. Is that OK?

Thanks for the offers to train in Nelson and Dunedin, if I find that I am going there, I will be in touch.

Olly

Thanks everyone, it's great to see that kiwi hospitality is still at it's best

By the way Nick, we have nearly managed to start a Justice team over here, my Div 2 team this year consists of me, Hamish D, Sandy Q, Andi and two of the GB Ladies side...has been lots of fun in our training sessions...

Morning.

I Also Play for the palmerston north vikings, and i believe it doesn't actually rain that bad around the manawatu area. I'm living in Levin at the moment, and i'm wondering what the attraction is to make it worth travelling half way around the world to get to? On a lighter note if you need any help getting to trainings while your here give us a yell and we'll try and help you out

Hi Justin

I have been given your contact details by James. I'll give you a call when I arrive, to say hello. Many thanks for the offer of a lift.

The attraction of travelling so far is....because we can...and because polo is played in NZ....and I suppose because my Aunt lives in Levin.
I am not on my own, there's also my dad and little brother coming over to disturb the peace....

See you soon

:wavey: Hi all,

Finally arrived back in London at the start of the New Year, and have been really slow in writing to say thanks for letting me train with you at Christchurch and Palmerston North - good sessions! Thanks to James and Nick B for providing boats and buoyancy aids.
Got back to London in time to play in the National Championships at the London Boatshow where our team, Meridian, won the junior title.

I must also say thanks for the offers to Freya and Fergy5, but unfortunately we ran out of time on our holiday, and we didn't get to either Nelson or Dunedin. They will have to wait until next time.

Thanks again.

Olly
