Hello All,
Canada is trying to sort out when we are leaving for the 2006 worlds and what pre-worlds tournaments there are in the western european area.
So does anyone have any information on tournaments from approx. July 1 to Aug 8th, 2006?
As yet, this site's calendar only has one tournament listed on July 8,9 in Italy.
Many Thanks

Hi...
I think the best way is to check the calendar of 2005, and just assume the past tornments will all took place more or less in the same date(weekend).

South Afrfica is also trying to find out what tournaments will be before worlds. From what I can see on the calender Ieper is going to be after and the only tournament Before would be the Westhoek International Veurne. This is as far as I can tell I may be wrong. Would like confirmation on this though.

Laurel & Clive,
Here's confirmation that you are wrong on that issue as our 17th Italian I.C.F.International is bang on schedule for the dates of the 8th and 9th of July 2006.
You can consult the Calendar page on this site for more information on the Event.
Cheers!

Thank God for that reply;)
So I went searching and found the Hull International website.
http://www.geocities.com/hull_international/
It says that the event happens on the first weeknd in July. Based on that I asssume that will be July 1-2, 2006.
That may be a little early for us Canadians, so we will keep looking for more events from mid July to early Aug.
The western europeon events that I found based on the 2005 schedule may be:
Skovshoved, Denmark possibly July 22-23, 2006?
Lamperhein, Germany possibly July 22-23, 2006?

The tournament from Veurne is usually the first weekend in August, but nothing can be found on their site (www.wkv.be (http://www.wkv.be))
... is on for the weekend mentioned. Skovshoved is situated just north of Copenhagen, and the dates are confirmed... will add it to the calendar here in a bit, when invitationas are done.

Laurel & Clive,
So, I´m assuming South Africa qualified via a continental championship. If so, how did that go and when did it go?
Thanks,

For Africa it was interesting as Namibia the only other competitive African Country has not been able to put a team together so South Africa has qualified by being the highest ranked african country. We managed to get confirmation from the African Canoeing Federation who consulted with the ICF on this.
We would like to have had a continental champs but unfortunately it was not possible this year we are currently trying to get some of the neighboring countries (Swaziland and Botswana) to start playing polo at a higher level. Then hopefully we will have at least four countries competing for the African title. But it is a slow process.

Clive,
Thanks for the clarification on this.
We, in the US, are hoping the ICF considers us worthy of being awarded a Wild Card selection.
Sincerely,
Clive

This year at the Dikkebus tournament, also in Ieper, it was said that next year the tournament would be held at 29-30 july. This would fit your plans and is a fairly big tournament. 6 or 7 pitches this year...

Hi,
The 11th kayakpolo-tournament of "De Paddel 2006" takes place on 29-30 JULY 2006. In 2005, we have plaid with 54 teams on 7 pitches. In 2006 we want do the same. If your team is interested, send us an email as soon as possible.
The tournament takes place 2 weeks before the World Championships in Amsterdam (3 and a half hours by car from Dikkebusvijver). There are possibilities to camp (for free) a week before and a week after the tournament. There are hotels in the neighbourhood. There are also facilities to organize trainingsessions on the different pitches.
The nearest airports are Oostende (45 minutes driving), Charleroi (1 hour driving) and Zaventem (Brussels) (1 hour 15minutes driving). The nearest ferryports are Oostende, Calais (Nord of France) and Zeebrugge (all 45 minutes driving).
We have 1st and 2nd division and Ladies division.
Kind regards and hope to see you next year, Serge Vandeputte & Elleke Andries (Kanoclub De Paddel)

At 5 and 6 August 2006 we will be hosting the 5th Westhoek International at Veurne. The games are played in a little harbour in the city centre.
Veurne (Belgium) is located in the Western tip of Belgium at about a 3 hours drive from Amsterdam.
The tournament is played on 2 pitches, so make sure to apply for entry in time (the early bird catches the worm!).
For info on previous editions you can check www.wkv.be (http://www.wkv.be/).
If you are interested, please PM me.
Greetz,
Djorre.

For those not familiar with the area: the Ieper, Dikkebus/Paddel and Veurne tournaments are all in the same area and not very far apart. So from there it's a 3.5 hours' drive to Amsterdam but once you're in the area there are 3 great tournaments close by.
(BTW: I just assume the Ieper tournament will be held in 2006, otherwise it's just 2 great tournaments ;) )
