I'm looking for canoe polo training in the Carlisle area. I am 15 years old and I had previously been training with Meridian for about 3 years and not much since I moved to Carlisle 2 years ago. I am looking for a ladies/youth team to play with. If you can help please let me know.
:wavey: Thanks, Sarah

Hi Sarah,

There used to be (may still be for all I know) a team based in Cumbria - The Lakeland Lunnies or Loonies. Anyway, they used to play in Div III North and Div IV North and I think were still around the year before last. You could try reaching them through the BCU as they will be affiliated.

Other than that I think the best bet is to try the likes of Tyne Valley, who do have a Ladies team, although training, etc. etc. etc. I have absolutely no idea about as I moved away from the area over 10 years ago.

Other clubs/teams in the North are ourselves Selkirk Toon (but we have one team in Open Div II so sorry), Tynemouth, Tees and Newcastle, Durham and the (I have to mention them although it hurts) Mackem Sunderland Uni's, where you may get some joy.

As you will no doubt know, depending upon your car and style of driving the N.East is easily accessible across the A69 from Carlisle and Penrith in give or take 15 mins, an hour or so.

May help, may not but you never know.

Good luck anyway

Ivan

Hi Sarah,

Have you tried looking on the BCU website for the cumbria region? http://www.bcu.org.uk/aboutus/regionscumbria.html

Looks like there's a few clubs around you might be able to join. Lakeland entered Div 3 North last year.

Or if you're struggling, you could come over to Newcastle to train with us. It'll be a bit different from what you're used to at Meridian though! It's also a bit of a drive.

Hope you find something,

Hilary
