To my opinion the 6 meter rule should be changed in 4,5 meter and then with goalkeeper.

I agree totally with you on that 1 EricV :twocents:
It makes the penalty throw more competitive than just being an easy freebee!

If the 4.5m mark is used with a keeper for all penalties the advantage would swing towards the defending team + would probably result in an increase in 'professional fouls' occurring.

I have not seen a lot of penalty shout outs but my perception is that it is actually quite hard to score against a good goalkeeper.

With this in mind I actually like the fact that a penalty usually results in a goal, it should mean the game is played fairer and is more equitable.

I agree with you Ian, it would make it harder in some cases where there is a good goalkeeper, but what I think the problem is now with the GPS is that you're essentially awarding a goal when you give a GPS.

What if the shooter could start at the halfway line and "dribble in" and shoot from wherever he/she likes... kind of like hockey? That would increase the chances of a goal but it wouldn't be a joke like the GPS is now. I hate when games are decided by GPS.

I'd rather play a game where referees feel they can punish fouls more freely but the fouled team would still have to "earn" the point.

In most cases a penalty is given when the chance that the attacker would probably have scored is high but he couldn't do so because of an foul... For instance on a break where the defender is blocking the attacker from behind. The chance on scoring would have been high, probably higher then with a penalty. With a goalie the attacker would definatily have a disadvantage...
Beside this there is the rule that when the attacker scores even when the foul is made (and the penalty already signaled by the ref.) the point is awarded. We wouldn't have made this rule when we didn't believe that a penalty is only given when the chance on a goal was high...

If the ref. has done his job right a game can never be desided by a penalty. It is the defender who desided to make the foul...

Guys,
We're going off the thread here, its not a penalty shot that was being discussed here, but about the tie-breaker markers
No prob however, if you want to discuss further opinions about penalties and penalty shooting:D

just wanted to make the point that it is possible to miss a penalty shot without a keeper. bringing in a keeper would reduce the embarresment
