Reading the ICF writings, I believe the term "Continental Cup" is used throughout. Implying that the tournaments have something to do with continents. Americas Cup, the Continental qualifier for both North and South America is undergoing a battle for the hosting city. Both Edmonton and Sao Paulo want to host it. Mostly because of time and money since the two continents are so far away. It is killing canoepolo on both Continents.

Many of those outside of the Americas are likely to be surprised.

-Amsterdam is closer to Edmonton than Edmonton is Sao Paulo!
-Amsterdam is closer to Nagoya than Edmonton is to Sao Paulo!!
-Amsterdam is closer to Sao Paulo than Edmonton is to Sao Paulo!!!

Below are distances between recent Worlds Hosts.

Distances in kilometers as the crow flies:
http://www.indo.com/distance/index.html

Edmonton, Canada to:
Amsterdam, Netherlands 6957
Nagoya, Japan 8079
Sao Paulo, Brazil 10672

Amsterdam, Netherlands to:
Edmonton, Canada 6957
Nagoya, Japan 9246
Sao Paulo, Brazil 9780

Maybe North America should be paired with Europe or Asia? It would be cheaper and closer. Or pair South America and Europe!?!?!
Just ideas....

Yes I know...they are a stupid ideas, but to many of us North and South Americans it does not seem as stupid as our current situation!!!!

I think the drop in South American participation world wide is directly attributed to the continental cup.

USA currently has to fly team members up to 4200km to try to practice once in a while. A team practice always involves an airplane. This is a huge obstacle, but it is our own problem to deal with. We are a budding third world country in canoepolo and don't need more obstacles to deal with.

For you Europeans, think how expensive and inconvenient it was to go to Nagoya, Japan. Now think about doing it every two years just to qualify for Worlds!!! Our situation is even worse!

I feel sorry for Argentina...

Let's redraw the map. We would like some caring ICF representatives :wavey: to understand our (North & South America) predicament....

Excellent ideas Albert!

I love the idea of including North America with the Asian Championships, and pairing Europe with South America. As you say, THIS MAKES MORE SENSE THAN THE CURRENT SITUATION.

Let the Euro (decision makers) flay to Brazil to qualify, and see how long they find that amusing and fair. After all, they are geographically closer than we are.

Time to push for more non-Europcentric representation on ICFCPC. Until there is, expect most things to be orgsanised to suit the Europeans.

Its easy to criticise - harder to make a difference.

Why not channel some of your negative energy in to joining the ICF and making a real contribution rather than criticising carte blance.

You seem to have a real bee in your bonnet about Europe - what is your real issue?

Don't hide if you are going to make comments. Announce who you are.

If you don't know who I am, then just ask around.

Someone who spent a whole part of his life getting canoe polo to international rules, and is so disappointed in what the polite people have done with the sport since.
