What do people think of this?

Hi,
I heard a rumour, may be true, maybe not? that some Dutch players tried this. Wicked arm reach and passing would be simpler, but maybe not for me.
As the years go by, its' far easier to sit on ones ass!:thumbdown

the questin was why is it called canoe polo when its in kayaks. has nothing to do with me knowing wat a c1 is :)
Hi Menace
Now i know your problem.
The word "Canoe" is the collective term for boats, where the paddler looks forward (the direction to the bow of the boat).
There are two different types of canoes: (open) canoes like c1 or BOATS LIKE HISTORIC INDIAN OR CANADIAN (voyajeur) ones, driven by single bladed paddles, and kayaks, driven by double bladed paddles.
The exact opposite to a canoe is a ROWBOAT (Driver looks to the back / stern).
I hope this answer will meet your expectations.

Definatly NO!
A canadian or c1 is a boat for one person who kneels up in it with a single bladed paddle. they kneel up on a foam block and strap themselves in to prevent themselves from falling around in it
Hi Menace
Do you agree with my definition posted on page ONE ?
I wish you a great season !!!!!!!!!!!

Canoeists have a single bladed paddle is the easiest explanation.

Not quite what i was looking for. a canoe is where u kneel using a single blade to paddle with whereas a kayak u sit on ur ass using a double bladed paddle. In polo you have to use a kayak so why do they call it canoe polo.
Saying that i always say i go canoeing so you may be true there about it be a collective term.
:wavey: A good season to you too :wavey:

Terrible description! That means that I could sit in my kayak, pick up a single bladed paddle, and all of a sudden, it has turned into a canoe. I could use similar magic to turn a nice big open boat, into a kayak.

If you fancy setting up a c1 polo team for a laugh and entering a competition to see what the other teams reckon, I'd be up for it.

since someone deleted my last post i will reword it and hopefully it won't get deleted again. No you cant set up a C1 team to play against a proper team the idea is fatuous and illegal. You would loose and you could do some serious damage. I just think this whole thread is ridiculous are people being serious or is this just a terrible, terrible joke????????????

It doesn't state in the rules that you have to sit in your canoe. We could soon convert some RX's or similar. We don't know who would win or loose untill its done, We don't automatically loose cause we are a different team, it goes on how many goals we score. Who knows we could win there is only one chance of finding out and thats to try it.
As for dangerous it will be only as dangerous as playing normally and thats dangerous at times if not more.

If u convert a C1 into a polo boat then it isn't a C1 boat anymore therefore it can't be a C1 team. If you don't convert the boat then you can't play because a C1 boat doesn't correspond with the rules i.e. it has to be a KAYAK. No it doesn't say u cant sit up in a boat but neither does it say u have to score in your opponent's goal to win it says the team with the most goals wins: it is taken for granted that it is in the opponent's goal. Seriously if u want to start C1 polo then fine but if u start playing against kayaks then u will wreck the game. Part of the point of the game is that it is a level playing field; both teams are sitting, both teams are in kayaks. In my opinion you can have both teams in c1 boats if u want but not 1 in c1 and 1 in kayaks. It wouldn't as u imply be less dangerous then normal polo in fact it could well be much more dangerous because the players sitting up would be more exposed to blows from the side (which you are better protected from in a kayak. And i stand by my verdict that, unless u modify the boat to the point were it is a kayak and not a c1 then u wud loose.

I was converting a kayak to C1 so there fore it is still a kayak.
Yes I agree less protection but longer bouyancy aids would combat this.
It was an idea if it happend in reality then we would cross the bridge wen it cam to it. I'm sure one game as a demo would be worth watching to see if it takes off and every one who plays polo I know off is always up for a laugh and something different. so who knows in the world championships there might be a new league in years to come

Thanks Matt,
Surely longer B.A.'s would make us look a bit silly?
I agree it would be fun to watch/partake in, but I'm still not sure if it would ever take off, due mainly to practicalities and I don't think it would be any better than "standard" polo. Surely any changes must improve the game as a whole?
However, as I say it would be a giggle at least once and probably after some Stella Artois!

personally I think canoe polo has enough problems promoting itself and developing anyway without puttin C1 type boats into it. I think every effort should be made to make canoe polo as it is a more widely known and played sport and I think C1 type boats would detract from this. As for the world champs bit I totally disagree: read the forums!!! People in america, canada etc are strugling to pay a sport they know and love because of ICF rules and countries/teams are going to be prohibited from entering future worlds because (presumably) of the difficulties in accomodating all the action within a week. Seriously given the state the sport is in I would make every effort to save the sport rather than introducing these new aspects into it. If we don't canoe polo as we know it will die.
I agree with Ivan, outside of a joke this idea sucks.

It was a silly little idea that started of C1 rodeo.
So who knows someone someday may actually decide to try it and good on them if do. Yes I do admit the sport needs to be more publicide. It was an idea thats all.

OK Menace,
When I said "why not" it was just a joke!
The real question is that is there a chance in hell to change the name of this modern sport from "canoe polo" to "kayak polo" , I doubt it.
Basically, in a generic way nearly everyone refers to a kayak as a canoe including myself :o !!!
Though originally in the past, before the use of the Eskimo kayak became popular with us Europeans, nearly everybody paddled with the more comune open "Canadian" style canoe.
It is most probable that early paddlers started playing with a ball sitting in canadian canoes, hence the name. As a matter of fact in the early part of the 20th century, French paddlers played a game called 'Canoe Balle' sitting in open canoes, 2 per boat. So in the early days one can say that the game of canoe polo did exist.
You have to ponder that today many countries still call the sport kayak polo, even though officially it is known as 'canoe polo'.
Does it make a difference to the game, I doubt it.
Does it worry anybody to make them pass sleepless nights worrying over it, I doubt it.
So Menace, don't worry, be happy and play be it canoe or kayak polo. The rest is one's point of view.
Just for the record as this is a forum to get anybody's point of view I will post a poll on the subject.
After that poll is closed, you can draw up your own conclusions on the name
Cheers
