Yes, they do break. My fren broke his lettman paddle when he is doing goalkeeping. He used it for less than 6 mths.
Lettman paddles are asymmetric.
would you want a paddle, which breaks in less than 6 mths?
The choice is yours.

Buy a bracsa, they seem to be the business, particularly the spoon blade is great

The choice is yours. That could just be a flaw in that particular paddle and didn't cure properly. There's a few ppl here in Canada that have lettmans and I haven't seen them break. It also could be because during travels from point a to point b that it was hit and not ever noticed.....never know. I've seen lots of paddles break, and it can happen to anyone at anytime. Personally I paddle asymetrical paddles and the only one that's broken on the blade is my Bracsa and I'd had it for about 15 months or so. I also have g-spot blades now as well and I find they are holding up really well.

hey hey,
so far i haven't seen any doubledutch break yet. :p
but as for brasca asymmetric, my school has 2 blades which broke beyond repair after 2 years. that is 2 out of 5 asymm blades.
brasca kinetic, out of 5, only 1 had crack linings.
brasca spoon, 0 ouf 2 damaged.
think the worst paddle is galasport. usually the 1st paddle to spoil compared with others. One by one they broke until i've lost count! haha

I believe its unfair to point fingers at any make of paddles in particular. It largely depends on the type of usage. A paddle under team use would be largely mishandled compared to a personal paddle which comes under more care.
I personally broke 2 brasca (personal), each just after a year. but you can't say the paddle is not worthy, it may just not suit your style. My friends have been using personal brasca kinetic for like 2-3years without it breaking.
Been paddling a DD for close to a yr n half. except for a small crack caused by frequent flying:mad: repaired by epoxy, it has been holding quite well. Have seen DD broken in two. no make of paddle is immortal:D just make the most of it while it is still working:thumbup:
back to the topic though, have seen many top players using Lettman. Speaks for itself.

I ment more the blade as a whole, with the shaft. Arn't lettman blades made in two parts with 1/2 of a shaft each and connected togeter? I have heard rumours of letman being "the strongest blade" but if they are so strong what affects does this have on playing. Does it hurt your wrist like when paddeling a stiff shaft
cheers
Hi @ all
My son is usin a Lettmann LCS 50 since four years, without
problems.
His trainer has a Lettmann LCS 70 since the world championship
in Brazil a few years ago, no problems also. But sh.. happenes
sometimes. I have a double dutch polo Kinetic full carbon
for training with our junior team and for offshore surfing: no problems.

Something different, i am thinking of changing to a crankshaft for slalom racing and river paddling, was thinking of trying ont a crankshaft for polo as well,
any thoughts? Does any one else use cranks for polo?

I know someone who uses cranks for polo. He finds them easier to paddle with compared to paddles with a normal shaft. He is the only person i know who uses cranks, but hey, u'll stand out more atleast

I,m fairly rough with my blades and break more than the average cos I play in goal now and then. I'd say the lettmann blades are the best made blades around and i've seen hardly any break (1 or 2).
I personally use Double Dutch due to the weight and feel and did use crank shafts for a while but they just break quicker than the carbon 2 F shafts! After about 6 breaks in 12 months I gave up with that idea and got hold of lettmann cranks for paddaling and straight shafts for playing. Easier on the pocket.

Mitchell Paddles is now making canoe polo blades in an assymetrical and a kinetic shape. From what i hear they are virtually indestructible as a team from Boston USA went through many brands before settling on mitchell as being durable. These paddles do weigh slightly more because they use a wood core but this adds a considerable amount of give while retaining the strength.
i may be a bit biased as i am a dealer for Mitchell paddles but when i asked the guy who makes the paddles if i could get a broken blade in order to see a cross section of the construction, he said: "he would love too but he has never gotten a broken blade back, and he doesnt want to cut up a new one" hhahahaha
i have seen a few people using lettman in canada, but they are definitely lots of money, and its a 2-peice shaft which seems undesirable to me...

Paddle talk?
I use Double Dutch blades and shaft. I have my blades already 4 years. That's durable enough for me.
If the goalkeeper has to buy new paddles again and again. Then would it be better to split the cost with the rest of the teammates.
