GO TAIWAN
YEsterday I wrote
Australian Men go down 3-1 to Germany. Last game of the group is against GB.
Germany lost before to GB, is on equal points with us, but has a better goal difference than us.
So, to proceed to the final 4 probably need a miracle - options are.
Beat GB by 1, and Germany only draws with Taiwan
Well, that part of the miracle didn't work GB Beat Taiwan 7-1, to put their goal average probably beyond reach - could we beat them by 3 goals?
Draw with GB, and Germany go down against Taiwan (even a draw there would not be enough)
Well, that didn't happen
Lose to GB, but Germany lose by even more to Taiwan. Still, Taiwan have been playing well. Holding us to just 7 - 5 is why it has become so hard. Rule that one out
But there was another option I had forgetten about. Beat GB by one more than Germany beat Taiwan by.
I think I dismissed that because even if we did that, we would be behind on Goals For, compared with Germany, after a game against Taiwan.
But, keep the faith. WE BEAT GB, and with a High Scoring game.
So now Germany has to do more than just beat Taiwan. They have to beat them by 2 goals, or beat them by 1 and get 7 or more goals.
GO CHINESE TAIPEI
If they cold hold the great Australian team to a 7 - 5 scoreline, can they hold Germany to something like 6-5, or 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1, 1-0, or of course a draw, or get the win they of course really want!
