Flat 3-This is a fairly popular defensive zone. There's a goalie(of course), three defenders in front of the goalie facing their opponent's net. One of these defenders is directly in front of the goalie and the two other defenders on both sides of that one center defender. Then there is a top player which they can decide to chase or stay at the top of the zone to help prevent opponents from getting inside the zone.
2&2 Chasing-Goalie, two defenders, and then two chasers.
Overload-An offensive strategy where you put more attackers on one side of the defence then the other and therefore give the offence the advantage.
Star Attack-I'm never heard of anything being refered to as this, but I believe it would just be basic offensive positions. One player near each corner of opponents end, two players on top of the defenders zone and then the last player in the middle. With this offensive formation your team can produce a number of different attacks.

Hi Marion,
I noticed on your profile that you play at Avon, I would suggest speaking to Caroline Hollies as she is familiar with all of these tactics.

any chance you are looking to go to U21 trials? just that all those tactics were all written on the 'required skills' sheet that I was just looking at

yeh i am. are you?
was planning to go, but not sure as have only played for a year so don't have much experiance of playing games at a high level. Had my first ladies national div one game this weekend, got a right thrashing and generally feeling like my polo skills aren't up to it

Hi Guest,
Even if you do not think you are quite up to the standards sent out it can still be worth going along to the selection weekend just to see how they work and to get some coaching for a weekend. This will mean that if you are not successful this year you will have a better idea of what is expected of you next year.
I refereed quite a few of the games at the Div 1 on the weekend, from your description of the games I assume that you play for OSH, what's your name and what number were you playing in?
