I have taken paddle shots with and without a goalie and sometimes with defender. Most often as a surprise or to get off a quick shot from the water. Forward, backward, etc.
What I want to clear up in my mind is offensive fouling for the shooter.
I envision "slam dunking" the ball into the net. Similar to basketball where the dunker goes thru a defender. In this case, say within 3 meters and more likely 2, you accelerate the ball into the net.
The goalie of course will try to block and if successful a whacking of paddles will likely occur. Even after the release, there may be paddle on paddle contact if the shooter is close enough. This will likely occur above the hands.
Let's assume that the shooter's paddle never comes within arms reach of a defender. Are there any fouls that may be committed by the shooter? Catch all "Dangerous Play"?
I think of all things it is more likely that a defender blocking will travel along the shooter's shaft and hit his hand with their paddle. Would this be a penalty shot? Paddle/hand contact in the act of shooting.....The shooter's paddle will tend to be going up and across while the defender would be across or even down.
Again this is for situations where the paddle shooter is accellerating the ball through the possible blocking zones of the defender/goalie.
It would be very aggressive and likely lots of paddle/paddle contact. Very similar to a basketball's slam dunk.
I can't seem to find a rule that applies and have not seen it reffed one way or the other. I know I could score this way but would have to buy more backup paddles.....
