View Full Version : Best Under21 player
Right all the "best player" threads are interesting but what about the younger players?
Who is the "best" Under 21 player in the world?
In North America I would put forward +sp_edey for the mens side.

If your refering from worlds in Japan, I have to put forward Kyle Polsfut from the Canadian U21 men's team. He was amazing leader for those guys and he was spectacular in net. Their game against Spain he was blocking just about everything that came near the net. An awesome game to watch. That wasn't the only stellar game he had either, those guys held Italy 5-3 and I'm sure made the Italians quite nervous in the second half. Nice work Kyle.

hmm
bit to Canadian minded here..
if you have the worlds best players.. why didn't you end up a bit higher in the ranks? :)
I think I would vote for Jurjen... and I'm pretty sure Henk would vote for him as well. ;)

MartijnI find this slightly insulting, just because our U21 team got ranked where they did doesn't mean anyone should destroy what pride they had for what they acomplished. The average age of that team was like 18 and they took great pride in their results against the strong teams. Given a game of one on one I bet Kyle would give a great run for best u21 player. I'm not saying there isn't any other great players around the world, I'm sure there most definiatly is but that doesn't change my view on who I think is a one of the best.
Hey Spedey,
Ease up, Martijn was just playin'. :D
You need to give him something back like ... "placed higher than the Dutch U21's."
I know the guys are looking forward to getting to play the Dutch again ... they really enjoyed it and learned a lot from your boys in 2002. I know it is hard to fund travelling halfway around the world on your own. We all share that problem. Can't wait to come back to the Netherlands for 2006!
Also, Kyle, the guy that Spedey was referring to is in your Calendar ... he is Mr. November! I got a signed copy right here on my wall.

Ha, :D
Sorry sp-edey... didn't mean to offend any of you northern Americans.. :wavey:
Although I'm still convinced the worlds best u21 player isn't from Canada (at this moment), I'm not questioning the talent and achievements of the Canadians (or anyone elses).
I do know you guys are best in movie qoute's and sing lyrics.

the age of the boys is more like 17, and on top of that most of them have only been playing a few years at the most (kyle being one of the 2 exceptions), along with that i do believe they where competing with only 6 players. though a team may not place high it has no correlation to how any individuals skills are. there are many teams that have amazing players that did not place as high as they would have wished (though they all played great). a team is only as strong as its weakest link, it is extremely unfair to pass judgment on some one due to there teams performance. however on the same note i stand by my belief that for what the boys had at that time they should be very proud. i would be the first Canadian to admit to the fact that when we attend worlds, though we would like to, we are not there to win a gold, but instead use it as a learning ground in the hopes of competing with the best in the future. all this being said, at the end of the day i feel the same way as my first post, i to would put kyle in a game of one on one with any person playing u21 out there today, though he may not win (no one can all the time, no matter how good you are) i would bet allot of money he would surprise allot of people, and would command allot more respect then what he is receiving now. and if this little competition also included goaltending, well you might as well give up now. sorry if this all sounds a little arrogant, but kyle is a very good friend and i, as would anyone else, takes offence to people bashing my good friends and there abilities. i must say though on a positive note if jurgen is as good as kyle, both country's can look forward to strong futures for there senior mens teams, and that is great for everyone. my hat is off to all the up and coming stars of canoe polo.
please dont take this the wrong way it is in no way a bash on any other players just MY feelings on the subject.

people bashing my good friends and there abilities.
Who is bashing who here?
I assume that you don't think I'm bashing anyone just because I asked why the Canadians didn't rank higher in the last worlds? (WITH a big smiley!)
Anyway.. I'm not really familiar with the Canadian U21s, and after reading your messages I guess they must be pretty good, or at least have some very good players amongst them...
And if they're all in the range of 17, I think your team might be one of the u21 teams with the brightest future!
Having said that... you might have the best u21 player in the world in a few years.. but right now I would still have to go for some European

perhaps it is just how it felt. and lets just say they are.. geting better, even we can admit they dont have a metal for reason. you know i was thinking one of the best ways to find out how some of our players are, would be to have a few teams from across the pond start coming to a few of the comps we hold over here. you could show us a little of that euro magic, you know help us get to the next level?

What about Peter Meakin from GB he has been in the GB mens team for the past few years and he is 18 or 19. GB have been there abouts at the big champs when he was playing.

Well its all good and well talking of the best players now, but looking into the future who will be the best then? correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't seem to think some countries have a good flow of youth players into their squads. Surely this is the key to holding any sort of "champions" status for a longer period of time?

In the future, Jeremy Blomsteel (Natsec, nl) will be the best:hump: . But about Jurjen... Is he still under 21?:bang: (otherwise we'll just make him under 21 player of the year)

Just curious, is this the same Jurjen that was on the U21 Dutch team in Essen for the 2002 worlds? If so, what # was he?
Thanx

yea thats the same, not sure how old he was at essen but he can't play for the u21 squad in 2005 so that would mean he's 22 now... think he was 19 or 20 at essen

At least Jeremy finally has a decent polovest now ;) Anyway, good to hear the Natsec juniors are still playing. Keep up the good work and make sure J's kid brother Rick keeps playing as well
i feel that there are many very goodu21 players from every nation, europe generally supplies the main bulk. i feel you can not pin one player down as the "best" as there are many situations during the game. the team collectively is what makes a good player anyway.

Although i think it's good to have heroes in a sport.
It attracts sponsors, motivate topplayers + beginners, etc.

It attracts sponsors, motivate topplayers + beginners, etc.I completely agree. Every sport has their own hero's and that's what attracts people to get involved.
We have some young kids here in Canada that are so skilled yet they lack size and experience, I'm really looking forward to seeing them play in their early twenties and open people's eyes. They can do stuff now that I'll never be able to do and I am truly amazed how much of workout they give me on the pitch. I'm sure that this is happening in every nation and that just means that this sport is gonna get huge and I can't wait.

My opinion is that is very difficul to find the best u21 player in the world becuase none of them are complete players yet.
All of you also forgot to name players like n°8 or n°5 from th ducth team and Italian players tha won in Essen like n°9 or n°4(I am very sorry i don't know the names of any.)
