So far I've heard only one statisitic. We have 28 nations represented ? But how many players ? Is this the biggest ever canoeing world championships ? I'm sure it leaves slalom and marathon for dead, but how does it match up to sprint ?
And don't forget the team officials. (But sorry Spike, we will forget the mascots!)

What will be the total spectator count ?

Who is the youngest player, and the oldest, in men's, womens, under 21 ?

I'll start the stats rolling with Australian team count.
Men - 9 Players, 1 coach
Women - 10 players, 1 coach
Squad - 2 additional officials

Meanwhile, anyone know how big the sprint world championships have been - countries, participants etc.

Roberto

-Mens team 8 players
-Womens team 9 players
-U21 Men 7 players
-delegation 3

-Youngest player 15 (U21)
-Oldest player ~50 in the men (don't want to say exactly for fear of repraisal)
-# of players with same last name on the national teams 4
-In 1996 worlds Canada had the distinction of have the oldest and youngest players at the worlds

OK next country.

Trivia question for consideration

How many players in the current championships played in the first world championships in 1994 in Sheffield

I know the Irish have at least one in Conor (Jabba) Walsh and I suspect there is at least one on the GB mens team in Alan Vessey

In the Australian Women's team, Juliette Makin and Gail Songberg were both there in 94. Juliette has missed a few, but I think Gail has been there every time. The coach, Jo Vartanian, was there in 94 as a player, and as Jo Hemsley.

In the Men's team, I'm pretty sure Duncan Cochrane was there as a player, but didn't play as he'd broken his collar bone! Or was that an earlier tour ?

Coach Brett Houghton was there as a player in 94.

Hi Richard
Duncan was there I seem to recall an open goal he missed. I think you will find Carolyn cochrane was there also.

Another piece of Trivia is Graham Bayne who is a member of the Australian Men's team at the 2002 Championships won gold in the 2000 world championships as part of the Great Britan Team

Richard and Jeff I suggest that you check your facts. Carolyn Cochrane was not in Sheffield as a player in 1994, and although I am not 100% sure I do not believe that Gail Songberg was either.

I'd just guessed about Gail. She's been an automatic pick for Australia since our first Women's team in 1987, and went to Europe in 1987, 1989, as Captain.

Must have just taken a year off in 1994, to reserve the finances.

Graham's twin brother Ramsey won gold in 2000 and again in 2002 with GB

We had 3 teams, 24 players, youngest player is 16, oldest 37.( both in the same team)
5 coaches
3 cameramen
4 cooks
And of course too much supporters to count!!!!!!
Some drove to Essen 2 or 3 times others stayed a couple of days or even the whole week. Thanks all, it was great!!!!!!

You are correct I was in the team in Sheffield so was Ginny Coyles in the GB Ladies team, the O'Brien brothers from Canada and Erwin Roos from Holland. And if I am not mistaken Erwin and Myself are the only 2 that have played in all 10 (european and Worlds) competitions.

Is Ramsay Bayne the only player to score a hatrick in a major Championship Final?

The USA Contingent was comprised of 18 people.

There were 17 players
- 8 Women
- 9 Men

and 2 coaches
- men's coach
- women's coach (one of the players on the men's team)

The average age of the men's team is 34, and the ladies
team is 33, bordering on 34.

3 players had competed at previous Worlds, 2 Men and
one Woman.

3 of the Men, 2 of the Women and both coaches claim
citizenship of countries other than the USA (of course, all
are legal residents in the States)

The USA team is currently funded entirely by the players,
although the generous support of two companies must be
noted  :
- Grateful Heads (http://www.gratefulheads.com/) (who provided our smart new helmets)
- Five-Ten (http://www.fiveten.com) (who supplied paddling shoes)

I ment Finland as us... :)

Our team in U21 is guite young. Most of them are 18 yers old. Also in our womens team 3 would have been young enough for U21 women.

Sweden had
17 players

9 men
7 women (and one only if someone got hurt)

No other people, one of the men coached the women.

The youngest in the mens team is 16 and the oldest in the women is 38 (no name :)).

Hi,

I got the numbers out of the game results published on kanupolo.de/..etc..
As there isn't any info on wh scored the goals... I'm not able to do any stats on that one... :(

So if you would like to know topscorerslists etc. you should talk to the organising committee...

Bye

Samba

Think it's better to keep the photo, like, you know, as a backup for future purposes...
Well, I must say that Irish blokes have a unique ways to have fun...
So, forget the photo!
