a club mate just called these guys and they will ship kayaks door to door if the
total girth (Length + 2*Height + 2*Width) is less than 165". They are
otherwise happy to ship anything. They use UPS for their carrier.

Hi,
That's right, we love to do business with individual boaters; we also ship for companies including Pyranha, Jackson, Riot and CKS.
Our customers tell us we offer a level of service that is impossible to find anywhere else, and that's our goal.
You can book pickups and deliveries right from your home at www.SportsExpress.com (http://www.SportsExpress.com), or call and talk to a friendly, professional Travel Concierge right here in Durango, Colorado, at (800) 357-4174.
Check us out - we look forward to serving you!

Most canoe polo boats are larger than 165" (l*2Xw*2*h). Mine (a typical boat) measures 194", and I'm sure it will be a rare canoe polo boat that fits within that measurement. If there was some way to arrange for boats under 200", then I can see this being of interest.
In the future, if there is more freedom in canoe polo boat design, I wonder if boats that would fit within this dimension (which if I'm not mistaken is related to the size of containers that UPS and other carriers use for cargo) could be designed with performance similar to today's longer designs. It certainly would simplify things both for shipping as accompanied baggage and for cargo shipping.
