Hi everyone. It's Sunday and I'm in Fukui (the local Big Smoke) with some time to kill before church, which happens to be practically next door to the Fukui International Association, one of those surprisingly rare places that has Internet access.
It's been a pretty successful time in Awara to date. Here are some of the results from recent days.
I don't have full details of the girls' results but they have done well. They beat Australia a couple of days ago, drew with GB yesterday in a really cool game, and beat Australia 3-1 this morning, so their campaign is looking right on track.
Here are some of the guys' results:
11/7: vs japan U-21: 4-2, 3-1
12/7: vs Jap U-21: 4-3, vs USA 10-2, vs Jap U-21 4-3 (golden goal overtime)
13/7: vs USA 11-0, vs Can U-21 10-1 then 10-0, vs Jap U-21 4-2, then 9-0.
14/7: vs Canada 7-2, vs Jap U-21 5-0
15/7: vs Canada 5-1, vs Australia 1-3
16/7: vs Jap U-21 8-3, vs Australia 3-2 (an historic win for us really, first victory over Australia since 1996, and the girls beat Aus the same day!), vs Australia 1-3
17/7: vs Canada 3-2 (not a great game by us), vs Italy 3-4 (we lost by one from a turnover near the end, were winning most of the game, a pretty good performance against a class team), vs USA 6-2. Then we played Great Britain (who for some reason have been unwilling to play anyone else) and went down 2-8 (they killed us on fast breaks - they are QUICK. Paul and James scored an amazingly cool goal though). Then vs jap U-21 5-4.
18/8: We played GB again this morning and lost 0-4. They got 3 goals in the first 6 or 7 minutes, then only one more goal in the second half. We stopped their fast breaks a lot better but it was hadling/passing turnovers that let us down. There was a game against Aust at 11am but I don't know the result, and we play Italy at 3pm.
Tomorrow we head to Miyoshi for the final leg of the tour. Awara has been good to us though and the time has gone really fast.
Cheers, thanks for the interest and support,
- Dean

Any one heard anything else about how GB are getting on? I haven't spoken to / heard from Neil since they left last Tuesday and have only been able to pick up snippits of info from various threads. As their phones don't appear to be working does anyone know what phones/ networks etc do work over there? Also (selfish question really), as i'm going out next thursday i was wondering if anyone knows what sort of electricity adaptor i need to get so that i can charge my camcorder overnight?
thanks and sorry for being neurotic!

Thanks for your fantastic report, Dean. It's wonderful to be given such a thorough account when we can't get over there to support you in person. I hope the games are giving you all some excellent feedback that can propel you through the World Champs and set up the team for some payback! Here's hoping that all your efforts pay off. Go NZ!
[greetings dean,thanks for the update
good results from both teams
our thoughts are with you

the notice about the website says the recorded games will be played 9pm-11.30pm on the 24th and live games will be played from 1.30pm-5pm on the 25th. These are all JST (Japan standard time) 3 hours behind NZ.
Hope this helps

You might be best asking retailers using the contact facility on their websites Vix. Not vital but maybe it might help if you tell 'em the type of camcorder you use too.
Here's a link to get you started
