VCPC is planning on hosting Canadian Nationals in BC next Summer. We have 2 possible locations, one near Whistler in which case the event would be held in conjunction with Nationals for other kayaking disciplines (slalom, wildwater, rodeo). This would be really cool, but possibly a logistical nightmare. The other option is to run the polo Nationals independently at the Sasamat Outdoor Centre near Vancouver on the weekend of June 28-29, 2003. I personally am leaning towards option 2, but Mareese is still gathering information about option 1, so we haven't made a decision yet.

Things that we know for sure so far are:
1. It will proceed (ie there will be a Canadian Nationals)
2. It will be held outdoors in BC
3. It will be during the Summer months (June, July or August)
4. It will be over a weekend, but participants will be required to arrive by Friday afternoon, and should NOT anticipate leaving early on Sunday evening.
5. There will be at least 2 pitches
6. Catering & accomodation options/info will be available
7. Further info/details will be provided on some dedicated webpages linked to from www.canoepolo.ca
8. A limited amount of rental equipment may be available - no guarantees

Cheers, Tristan.

Hey Tristan,

How many pitches would there be at the Whistler location? Personally I prefer option #1 because it's more easily accessible. But I never been in that area before so we'll see I guess.

See you this weekend.

1. There will probably be 2 pitches, no matter which venue we choose. Since both locations are outdoors on a lake, it shouldn't be too hard to set up extra pitches if needed - just more work ;-)

2. Both locations are approximately equidistant to Skook (i.e. the Skookumchuck rapids at Sechelt Narrows) in that you have to catch a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale first, then drive to Egmont. On summer weekends, the longest part of the trip is waiting in the ferry line-up. Still, it's an awesome spot - one of the best surf waves in the World or so I've been told. Check out the attached photo from my bearded days...

Cheers, Tristan.

Hi tristan it would be great if polo&slalom nationals could be held together.or as close as possable this would mean only one trip to BC this summer for parents of juniors. Are club has juniors that would like to compete Please let me know when you have dates. I think slalom is early august at chillawack thanks dan

Hi Dan,

We looked into doing that but it just didn't turn out to be feasible. We wanted to run polo, slalom and rodeo on the same weekend and make it into a kayaking festival. It was a great idea in theory but in the end, we realised that we would all end up compromising our events for the sake of having them all together. So, slalom is in August I believe but the polo is definitely the last weekend in June. Having them the same weekend would have meant that we would have missed out on these who were interested in competing in both also.

Cheers,
Mareese

For some reason, the photoshop beard makes me think of the Gimli the dwarf from Lord of the Rings.

And to keep this polo related, I think the polo promotion at the Outdoor Adventure Show went well today. Even with hitting members of the crowd with the ball.

There just is no good smiley with a beard for this thread.

What are we doing with Nationals anyways?
