Since I'm an American ignoramus I'm having difficulty figuring out all of the country code abbreviations for the draw.
Some questions:
Is "IRE" Ireland. Or shoud it be "IRL"?
Is "LIT" Lithuania. Or shoud it be "LTU"?
Is "NAMIB" Namibia. Or shoud it be "NAM"?
Is "SWI" Switzerland. Or shoud it be "SUI"?
And which country is represented by the code "TSJE"?
Or is all this country abbreviation stuff a fluid affair?
Thanks,
Patrick
Sorry I am unsure of the country codes. I only posted a copy of the draw that I received, I had no part in the draw or its publication. If you check the ICF website the country codes are listed

The original draw was done in German, so I assume the abbreviations are german ones. Your guesses are correct for which countries they are.
"TSJE" was originally "TSJECHIE" but that didn't fit without screwing up the formatting, so I abbreviated the abbreviation :D
I've since figured out that it represents the "Czech Republic"
Cheers, Tristan.

Tristan,
Thanks for that.
I imagine the abbreviation would be completely different in German though. "DEU" might make for Germany (Deutschland) and not "GER".
Ah well, thanks for the clarification on "TSJE"

I figured it out anyway.... as for country abbreviations being a fluid affair, I reckon it must be because I have seen a lot of two letter abbreviations used on the web instead of three letter. Then again, you have all the new countries that have formed over the years or changed names due to war or political upheaval...
Is the time schedule for the world championship set yet? Or when will it be?
Is it 2 teams from each group that will go on to next round?
Any possiblities for teams no longer involved to play against each other?
Best Regards,
Eva

As far as I know it is two teams to progress from the frist group stages into another set of groups. I don't now about teams which don't qualify from the first stage but I would assume that there would have to be play off games to determine final positions.

Try this link to the worlds site
http://www.kanupolo-wm2002.de/en/index.htm
You should get the relevant info there.
Conor!
Thanks for trying to help me. Actually I haven't even found the groups on the pages.
I got a mail with them directly from the organization.
Best Regards,
Eva
I wrote to Jon Bisset and he informed me that the Draw will be out in the next couple of weeks on http://www.canoe-polo.com. He says the groups are available on
http://www.canoe.org.au
I have asked him to see if he can get the ICF website ( http://www.canoeicf.com/) and the canoe-polo.com sites both updated....
Can't be an easy job!

In the U 21 mens, why is Britian in two different groups or is that just a typo? Because it says there should be four groups of four teams. It also seems odd that Germany isn't sending an U21 mens team.
Spedey
It seems to be a typo, but that is what was sent out from Germany. Germany are putting in an U21 team which group I am not sure

I combined the lists of team groups and IOC abbreviations into one handy list.. except some of the abbreviations don't appear on the list!?! (these are not written in caps, along with other things that are confusing ie. the 2 teams from Britain) I would assume that SWI is switzerland, but it isn't on the list. Also we are assuming that TSJE is Czech Republic.

Ok, the original post has been updated with the correct country abbreviations from the ICF website (http://www.canoeicf.com/structure/federations/federations.htm).
The only incorrect part of that list now regards the Mens U21 draw. If someone can confirm which group GBR are in it would help a lot?
HI ALL

HOPE THIS HELPS

Thanks Bob, that's what I thought it should be. It gives us 4 groups of 4 then. Table is updated and should be correct :D

no, you have just cancelled GER (Germany) in the men's U21 class.
GER is in Group B first positioned (because they got 2nd in Poland) and there are 17 teams:
M U21 Group B: 1 GER / 2 RSA / 3 POL / 4 BEL / 5 ITA
now, i think it should be correct.

I picked up this XL spreadsheet of the full game schedule, finals draws etc, for the worlds 2002, from an NZ web site. I've no idea how they got it. But it looks authentic. But, is it still valid ? can any one vouch for it ?
I'll have to post it in two halves - the games schedule, then the playing systems.

As before, I don't know how valid or current they are.

The attachments you have are the genuine thing alright. Eva posted them earlier. They were sent out to the contact person from each participating nation. Although I think most people saw them first here on the forums.

Yep that's right..
I think the Xls files coming from this forum supplied most of the Dutch national team players with their info..

I'm amazed at the poort quality of the web sites around the world in reporting the on-going results of the competition.
Can anyone point me at a maintained list of the competition groups. As we move into the next round I'm really keen to know is going to be playing whom and when.
 An whilst I'm at it, the 'official' site is about the poorest quality site I've come across. Surely someone in Germany knows how to build and maintain a useful site.

That's why I'm doing the work from the other side of the world - because no one can show us where any official tables are kept up to date. (Reminds me of Portugal 1998)
So, the place to go for Results, League Tables, Game Reports, Updated System Draw diagrams etc updated daily during the World Champs is right here at canoepolo.com forums. Specifically.
