How important are club colours?

Due to unforseen circumstances it seems I will be playing in purple colours this year.
Please give me good reasons to convince everyone of the team this is not the way we are going to win any game.

Purple pig #2   :waah:

P.S.
1)I allready bought a new boat. Yes, ... it's purple. What collours for helmets and live jackets should we use? (in case I cann't convince the other sissies)
2) After reading this text, you are definitely convinced purple is good for a headache

In spain there are one or two teams playing in purple, these guys began in purple, now more blue and they use yellow jackets.
I think it could be worst,we´ve been playing the last two years in orange, and in Spain the peple who work carrying the gas bottles to the houses wear this colour...

Paul Hammond is an excellent player, but take a look at the choice of colour on his webpage www.clydespolopage.com
Liblar has been one of the best teams in Europe for years. They play in pink.......

The winner usually look good no mater what colour he is playing in.....?

I might also be playing in purple/black this year and I intend to play well despite that :silly:

Sapoconcho,

Tnx for the support, but I do not find any purple colours on your picture. When I say purple, I am talking about RAL 4004.

Back in the late seventies when we picked the colours for our club, we went for the Gold and Black colours of the famous Lotus Formula 1 team's sponsor Benson & Hedges, as they were pretty cool, whilst other clubs were going for more suttle colours like blue, black and red.
Unfortunately, we soon found out that the speckled gold colour effect was difficult to obtain, either with plastic boats or with canoeing apparel, so we fell back on plain yellow with black.
A lot of people might say that yellow, like purple is an ugly or sissy colour for a men's team, but it sure does stand out from all the other shades of grey, blue, green, white and red.
Another no-no is that we can never get two items in yellow to match as each supplier has his own version of that colour, much to our chargin.
But we can live with that, so yello and black it has remained.

Don't think it really matters what colour you play in, it's just personal preference, I like them simple. I reckon the GB squad's is my favourite! (predictable?)
Funny thing though, seems to me, if you play in a so called "sissy" colour, say pink and you win you look great anyway, but if you loose (possibly badly) you look pretty stupid!

Hey Joe (how's tricks?)

I'd have thought you'd be used to playing in stupid colours after your London experiences - Purple and watered down orange anyone? with mildew? tasteful...

Dark purple can look ok, and yellow seems to contrast with it ok (eg Pennine, UK).

Most of the traditional colours are overused (how many teams can you think of who play in Black or Red or Blue?). I've a bit of a sof spot for white, but i'd guess its pretty hard to keep looking good.

perhaps we should look to use patterns instead - paisley possibly, or maybe a nice stripy number?

Purple rulez !

It's rather unique, you can see the difference between your teammates and those evil enemies.

Damn, still have to paint my boat purple.

BTW: Johan, our helmets are yellow :p
And we are getting new life jackets for the first team ...

It seems like polo is full of sissies who like purple.
My effort to bring our club colours in doubt does not seem to work. :bang:

By the way, robin: I forgot I plaid purple last year allready. This opens a window of opportunities. As my team plays in purple and yellow and ULU plays in purple and orange, we are compatible. When will we have a mixed international belgian-UK team? Liverpool?

i play in purple too, it looks a bit vial from the bank , but in the boat i only see half of it and it looks nice! complements the pool water! :D

all boat colours are sissy, putting time into planning and designing how to contact you boat is like painting your nails and picking a hand-bag to match yourt shoes! ;)

you rarely see a masculine boat (scruffy yes, manly no  ) though i am open to correction

on the white issue; if clean it can work well in a pool, but in murky/brown canal water it doesnt look very classy! but that just my :twocents:

Wait just a minute.

All ships are female. So does that translate down to kayaks?

All polo kayaks are female?

IF that is so, then I've got one fat woman of a boat. :)

Cheers,
