View Full Version : What would you do....
If you had the power to change one canoe polo rule, what rule would it be and why?

For a Centre Restart following a goal, so long as the ball is taken to the centre of the playing area, that team can then start their attack without waiting for the other team to get into their own half.
This would mean a quick counter attack could be possible instead of waiting for a player to return slowly to their own half.

100% behind this suggestion......if you have the power to change...
Sometimes precious seconds are wasted when leading team delay the last few seconds after their final/winning goal.....
Some ref will call for time out when they see time wasted but not all refs does that.

I think I would make the penalty for an illegal sub less harsh.
I recognise that it should be easy for a team to NOT illegal sub, but in the stress of competition it can happen - and seldomly affects the game play at all
a)Given that the only other way to get a yellow card is with a dangerous foul, or to commit a foul multiple times, accidentally having your boat over the line 1/2 second early seems pretty minor.
b)Given that often it is a linesman, and not even the ref who sees the foul - a big ramification from a minor official.
c)Accepting that there are different degrees of this foul: -accidentally paddling too early if your teammate stalls while coming off -VS- coming out of the sub area illegall to stop a breakaway goal, obstruct, or foul an opposition player.
...That's just a thought from me anyway. I'd also like some sort of rule that would prohibit Paul Hammond from skinning (and regularily capsizing) me every time I go for the ball against him.

whenever a penalty is given to a team it should be a shootout with a goalie from four meters instead of the EXTREMELY boring "free" penalty from 6 meters..

start their attack without waiting for the other team to get into their own half.
YES! That is the way they do it in handball these days, and it works!

scrap the 0.5m rule for illegal jostling inside the six metre zone. size and skill is an advantage. canoe polo is a contact sport..=)

Let's be allowed to push with 2 hands instead of only one. Also pushing when someone is on top of your boat should be allowed.

Kinda like Clyde's suggestion of just getting on with it! Although I think taking the ball to the centre of the playing area could be a massively unfair advantage over the other team. Yeah, if you were losing it might help, but if you were winning then you could take advantage of it! Perhaps rather than taking a centre a goal line throw would work (like basketball) but to be honest I think it's best as it is!
If I were to change a rule, it'd be allowing the beating up of crap referees! Got a yellow on the weekend for something completely stupid! Wasn't very happy!

Time-out after every goal, so there is no time wasted (at least, according to ICF rules).
However, you do no longer have the advantage of a fast break ...

Maybe it's just me but I think this would makethe game more interesting. If someone's in your way way when your trying to break down the pich then you would have only two options; you go over them, or you go through them. This would be verry frustrating for the firts bit, but it would lead to a more aggresive game. And it would bea hell of alot more intertaining.
