Hello everybody

On behalf of my federation, that is the Swiss Canoe Federation, I would like to know if other countries out there have the same problems as we do. we find it particularly hard to arrange accommodation in Myoshi.

If you could share some information about your accommodation in Japan we would be grateful and do the same.

We are looking for a youth hostel or 2 or 3 star hotel, close to where the pitches will be.

Any information is welcome

Thanks, pablo

Hi,
We (the Swedish teams) are having the same problem. All accomodation seems far away from the competition area.
We will share information as soon as we know something.

Best Regards,
Eva

Hi all!
There are a few campsite about 20-30km from Miyoshi.
But transportation was not so good. :thumbdown

So. I asked to the organizing committee directly.

As you can see on the official homepage below

http://www.canoepolo2004.jp/english/e_a1.htm

athlete have to pay \4000(ąUS$35)accreditation fee to entry.
On the home page, itfs said accreditation fee include transport
player and ships or equipment, from airport to arena ,
arena to hotel, or hotel to the Airport during this period.
But they said this can applicable, when player will stay at a hotel
which mediated by committee.

This mean, if you stay at a campsite or youth hostel (which is
not mediated by committee), you have to arrange the transportation all by yourselves. :gun:
I think this cost much more expensive and difficult than
stay at a provided hotel.

Therefore, please rethink about stay at a campsite or youth hostel.
I feel very sorry to this situation, :( but please feel free to
contact me, if something I can do for you. :welcome:

To K aussie.

I am still having difficulty trying to get in contact with the Committee and securing information on accommodation.

We have a party of 22 ( 8 Ladies and 14 Men ) and are due to arrive on the 16th July.

Perhaps you can enquire if the contact information given is correct.

Thank You.

To Tony G,

I think the inquiry of the commitee which is on their homepage
should be right.
http://www.canoepolo2004.jp/english/e_a1.htm

When I talked to them on the phone a few days ago,
I said and complain (a bit) to them, that many teams are
in trouble with accomodation and hard to get information.
I am ashamed of this situation and their inaptitude,
as one Japanese:bang:

If you still troubled with contact them after you try again,
please send me a private messege, with your itemized request.

Hi All,

Seems like most teams can't get a proper accomodation at WC 2004........

If teams can't secure accomodation, how can they compete?

Japan is a nice place but for this WC, seems like some teams will not be able to compete with the current problems (accom, transport, getting the host to reply.... etc)

Change of host perhaps? just a suggestion.....will be sad to see only a few teams in this WC 2004.

hi polo world,

first of all, let me apologize for not posting a message for a while concerinig this topic as a moderator.
not as a member of the worlds organising committee, i regret that i could not have sufficiently transmitted information to the world.

to briefly explaining the situation, accommodation and transportaion is controlled not by the organising committee but by the travel agent. the problem is that they can only offer transportation method to those who stay at thier recommended hotel, which you can take a look at the price on the web. even if there is a cheaper accommodation, it is difficult to find the transporation method separately.

today i talked with pic of the travel agent and explained the situation, such as the strong request for the cheaper accommodation. they will talk with the organising committee to have some solution for this problem so that i can hopefully have some positive answer soon.

the another problem is that there are not enough english tranlater in the organising committee so that inquiries from the world are stuck in the office.

should there be any progress, i wil keep you posted in this forum.

ps
just to mention a personal thoughts as a japanese canoe polo player, i had lots of good memories all over the world to date and now i would like to welcome you and would like you to fully enjoy your stay here in japan.

I have tried without success to get a reply to my E.Mails from Japan Travel Bureau. :bang:
I have sent emails from the 3rd March,
I have also emailed the organising committee and as yet no reply.
It is very expensive to attend the championships and we are trying to finalise costs etc.
If there is difficulty now with translators will this improve over the compitition, :twocents: I hope it will and we will all have a very enjoyable time in Japan.

I have been in contact with k.aussie, and he found camping grounds some 20km from playing area, There is accomodation in bungalows for 22$ aprox(5people in one bungalow), but as was said here on forum, no transport will be provided by organizers. I guess if more teams would be willing to stay in the same place, they can share transport cost or persuade organizer to provide some transport. Maybe it is too far, I am not sure.
The nearest hostel for about the same prize is in Nagoya
We would like to go to Japan, but it depends on the cost of accomodation and flight tickets. I was even thiking staying in the team room at the playing area(if there is any)

Hi Lanoch,
Do you know if there are possibilities to prepare lunch and dinner in the bungalows?

Hi eva,
That bungalow has cookstove for BBQ, but only cutting board and knives are available. There is a super market or convenience store about 10-15min walk from that place.
The one thing, you have to sleep at FUTON, not bed.
Oh, also booking can be acceppted from June the 1st .:thumbdown

Well for Canada we have the trip looking good. Flights and boat transport appear to be final.

The group at the Awara Invitational have done a fantastic job and providing information for us and providing a COST effective event. They have even asked us for some input with regards to menus fro meals that will be provided at a very reasonable charge the a hostel near the event. THANK YOU AWARA CANOE ASOCIATION. They have even offered to arrange (at our cost) for boat and player transport from Nagoya to Awara and from Awara to Miyoshi.

With regards to the worlds, yes the accomodations are WAY beyond what I had hoped to pay. Like most other nations Canada recieved amost $0 in funding and the players have to pay for these events themselves. This is a tough thing for young athletes. We are busy working on getting sponsorship to help out, but it sure would be nice to get some less expensive accomodations..........I have also emailed the worlds organizing commitee with this request a while ago.

i have talked with JTB and the organising committee.

in conclusion, it is impossible to have cheaper accommodation which is not on their list. if you use some cheaper accommdoation not on the list, you have to find the transportaion method by yourselves.

their logic is as below;

111. they tried to find cheaper accommodation, but this is what they could manage.
222. there is a criterion of accommodation for the world championships, and they already made a clarification to ICF and got an approval about their list.
333. tent style staying was one of their options and they tried to make it possible though some regulations could not make it possible.(yes, there is a park at the worlds' venue and also school next to the pitch but to stay at a tent is not allowed due to the ordinance by the local govenment.)
444. they have been well preparing for the world championships, also been recognizing about the high commodity price in japan, though their list is thier best effort.

i still understand that some of you have problems for the budget but as far as I talked with the organising committee i found that it is difficult to find better solution concerning this accommodation problem.

to see another japanese tournament, awara invitational, it is well preparing very cheap accommodations. but this is simply because they have flexibility due to the tournament scale and this doesnot mean that the worlds committee's preparation is not going well.( yes, i am a member or awara committee and not in the world's committee but i found it that their preparation is well going as far as i pondered the issues with them.)

one of the other problems that their reply takes time is to be solved soon so that pls be well communicated with them.(i think the situation is getting better.)

if there still be any problems or questions, pls donot hesitate to ask.

all the best,

shuhei

Dear Shuhei,
I just got my bill for paying the Canadian Teams accomodations in Miyoshi. From an estimated $94 CDN the cost per person is ~$69 CDN. This is much better that we thought it would be and has really improved the teams budget (i.e. the players are paying for it all). Thanks to the organizing commitee for getting these costs down.

Looking forward to going soon.
Best Regards,

That's the first bit of good news I have heard from an organisational point of view in relation to the Worlds.

Is it not a bit late for the organisers to be confirming prices? What would happen if it was the other way round, the cost of accomadation was increased? I assume most countries would have their budgets finalised at this stage. If prices did increase I can see some countries countries saying no to travelling since the majority of player are paying their own costs and can't afford an increase at this late stage.

I have just heard that one country has been told their application for accomadation a few months ago was never received! By all accounts getting info to and from the organisors is a complete nightmare with some emails from five months ago not being responded to.

Most countries are having difficulty in almost every aspect of trying to organise this trip from accomadation, travel, transport of boats. It really is getting to be hard on countries to finalise any arrangments / costs at this late stage.

When is the draw going to be held? Does anyone know? I thought it was supposed to be in Essen two weeks ago but the Japanesse officials were not there. Is this correct?

At this rate I can see some countries who have said they will travel, pulling out from the comp even at this late stage.

So much for trying to make canoe polo more professional and easier for more countries to particapte!!!

Hey Conor,

no, there was no one from the Japanese organisers or anybody else talked about the worlds.

The German men U21 team was kicked out by the German officials in a really bad way, so the Worlds are not getting good ones for the Germany.

How is everything going for the US team?? Still a good job to coach them?

Tell Michelle a lovely hello from me!!
