View Full Version : Any Catholics going to Miyoshi or Awara?

Hi folks

I hope to be going to the World Champs as part of the New Zealand team. It's likely we'll be spending time in Awara as well as in Miyoshi.

I'm Catholic, so I'm going to try to go to Mass on Sundays while I'm there. But I'm better at canoe polo than at reading Mass times off Japanese websites :) , so I'm still trying to figure out what the options are for this.

I've talked to some Japanese friends who tell me that neither Awara nor Miyoshi has a Catholic Church, and that the best options are as follows...

For Awara, the closest parish is in Obama:
917-0241
2-206-1 ONYU, OBAMA, FUKUI
TEL. 0770-56-3492

For Miyoshi, something even further away:
Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul
1-12-23 AOI, HIGASHI-KU
NAGOYA
TEL. 052-935-6305

Anyway, I'd be interested to know:
(a) if there will be any other teams at the World Champs with Catholics in them who are planning to go to Mass while in Japan; and,
(b) if so, does anyone have any better information than what I've posted above?

Thanks,

- Dean

St Christopher, patron saint of travellers, pray for us. :D

An update from my sources:

"There is a Catholic church in Fukui City, which is closer to Awara [than Obama]. The address is:
3-2-3 Houei
Fukui City
0776-25-4105

The location is 40 minutes by car, or about a half an hour train ride and 15 minute walk. They have two masses on Sundays, 9am in Japanese and 12 noon in English."

Gidday Kai, thanks for nothing. :)

You should ask the guys in Justice or Vikings whether they think me going to church makes any difference to game results... :worship:

And I still train in the plastic fantastic, but I've stepped up to playing in a much nicer boat now (Revenge Nitro).

Nice to hear from you,

- Dean

My reason for going to Japan is to give glory to God. If some canoe polo happens to be involved, all the better! :p

Go and watch Chariots of Fire to see what I mean. ;)

All the best,

- Dean

I know exactly what you wanna say Dean. My team travels every year from the north (Hannover) to the south (Munich). I told you about this fascinating tournament down there. I think it was called Oktoberfest-Tournament...not sure though as we are only playing canoepolo there :D

Congratulations to your new boat. I have already bought a new Lettmann Fighter, cant catch up with yours but it'll do the job :)

I hope you are able to play a tourny in Europe sooner or later where I am also allowed to play. Would be fun :lepr:
