2004 Ruth Holdway Cancer Charities Canoe Polo World Record Attempt
Hi there
Bit of a begging letter really.
Late last year we found out that a close friend of ours at York Uni had been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Ruth has decided that as she can not paddle or work, she will throw her efforts into fund raising for cancer charities.
To this end, a bunch of us have decided to partake in the above challenge to run a canoe polo tournament for a full 24 hours and in the process raise funds, profile and even get a world record out of it.
Now the crunch. We're looking for sponsors. (I told you it was a begging letter). Running the event its self is not going to be cheap and bringing sponsorship, prizes, raffles, kit (boats/BAs etc for the competitors to borrow) and support is the biggest favour I could ask of anyone. We want to throw a bit of a bash afterwards too, with music (DJ? / Band?) and the usual fineries of a paddling event...
I can send on more details as they have been presented to me by Ruth and her partner Dave Hepworth, but I first want to know who is around that might be able to get behind us with this. Obviously the return for your company would be slight (or whatever you can take from it) but rest assured that logo's, banners and credit will be paid where possible/due all around the publicity and on the merchandise. I will be canvassing as many people as possible, and putting this sort of message on TWP, UNSPONSORED, PEAK-forum etc, in due course, but was hoping to count on some early support if possible.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have. We are working to quite a tight schedule (looking to run things around the end of May in a York pool).
Thanks for any help you can offer
