What about Belgium, Hungary, Brazil, Poland and South Africa?
Or any of the other teams lurking out there.

Evelien

To expensive for Belgium, I think.
There are some players of the men's team who want to go. But they have to pay everything themselves. :thumbdown
I hope for them that they will find 8 good players who want to spend such an amount of money.
With the lady's we have the same problem. :waah:
So we have to train for Spain 2005, I think.

Some teams can not even consider the option of going. South Africa is one such team. These teams battle to even afford the european comepetions. In germany theu had to camp and cook their own low budget food. Japan as a venue has really killed canoe polo ambitions in south africa for at least 2 years!!

As far as I know the Germans send MenSenior, Woman Senior and I hope and we do our best to send an U21 Men Team.

Hi there,

South Africa is still trying to sort out teams, which we hopefully will have done by the end of January.

At this stage, we might be sending a women's team (depending on fundraising!!!) and will be sending EITHER a senior men's team OR a U21 mens team, but not both! We do not have a U21 women's team.

We are not the only team battling to find ways to finance this trip :twocents: , but having no international expose other than world champs every 2 years, it would be a huge loss not to be able to attend.

So, with luck, we will be there!

Oh, and we will be bring out tents and our budget food again, by the way!!!!

(If we could find a campsite near the venue - anyone managed to find out more about camping yet?)

Hi,

From the answers so far on the different forums, I have worked out the following (maybe means hopefully OR no comment):

Senior men: 13 yes 4 maybe 2 no
Senior ladies: 10 yes 5 maybe 4 no
U21 men: 2 yes 10 maybe 7 no
U21 ladies: 0 yes 5 maybe 14 no

The following 7 countries that were at the last worlds have not replied:
Argentina
Brasil
Chinese Taipei (although they should be there!)
Hungary
Iran
Latvia
Namibia
Poland

Keep those replies coming in!

(It is worth noting that the U21 women need 5 teams at least to have an official category)

Hi,

South Africa has confirmed that we will be sending only a U21 men's team. No senior teams. When other U21 teams have confirmed (bought their tickets!) please let us know.

Thanks :)

The U.S. will not be sending a U21 women's team. We lost three of our players from the 2003 squad and added three, but that left us with only five players which is too few to use at worlds.

Dutch senior ladies team will go too! (And the senior men will participate as Robert told already.) No U21 team.

To finance our trip we sell calendars. So if you like a real canoepolo calendar please send me an e-mail or ask one of us in Charleroi, Essen or Mechelen. (See classifieds for more information and the picture for an example.)

How much are the calendars?
Will you mail them to other countries?

Roosje
19-03-2004, 11:36 AM
The calendars are 8 Euro each (without forwarding-charges).

Of course we will mail them but it's cheaper for you when we meet at a tournament. If more people in your team (country) are interested we can mail them together. Then it's more interesting because of relative lower mailing and banking costs.

Please send me an e-mail if you like to order one or more calendars: R.M.Steltenpool@student.tue.nl

The brazilian confederation doesn't have money to any team. For the first time they won't pay the air ticket. We're doing our best to go to japan with the men's senior. Maybe only 5 players will go.

Roosje

Joao from Portugal ordered calendars and told me about "post-order-payment". This is a process of sending money by post office which is much cheaper than by international banking codes.

The International Canoe Federation has announced that the deadline to enter the World Canoe Polo Championships is extended till May 15th.

The 2004 World Canoe Polo Championships in Miyoshi Japan will be held from 21 till 25 July of this year. These are the last World Championships where the competition will be held in one year at one venue.

Various federations from all the continents have entered the competition. In this moment in time the organisers count 18 Men teams, 12 Women teams, 9 Under-21 Men teams and 3 Under-21 Women teams as participants.

The low numbers of participants coming from Asia was the reason for the I.C.F. to postpone the deadline till May 15th. Both the Japanese Canoe Federation and the Asian Canoe Confederation are working with a promotion plan to interest more Asian federations.

I am very disappointed to hear the poor asian response. My personal training is suffering because I have to invest much time trying to raise money to fund my competing in expensive Japan.

I would not be supprised if some of those teams already listed do not arrive at the competition due to these finacial demands. In effect there is likely to be a low turn out from both asia and europe now. The ICF's plan appears to have backfired..... and we have plans to try get in the olympics....this is a very bad advertisement.

Hoping to be there......if I raise alot more money.

Which teams are effectively been exculed by the location of this competiton?
As far as I know: Finland men, South African Men and Woman, Poland, Brazil, Czech.......
Can you add to this list.

The chances of participation of the brazilian team are very low. We don´t have any money to buy the tickets to fly to Japan, but we´re still waiting for a miracle to come.

Maybe we´ll be there.

Wow. There is a lot of negative vibes coming off of this thread. I know the US is considered a very young team and all, and with very little sponsorship, it has definatly made this trip a challange. But regardless of that, we still have many people who have dedicated themselves to the monitary commitment (through their own pockets) and are still enthusiastic to go. I know this is a big blow to many around the world as far as money goes, but like it was mentioned in many places around this site, what Worlds isn't? We are working hard to get donations, sponsorships and deals thus making the overall blow not as severe. Haha.. I guess you could say that we are a very persistant and obstinate group of people that refuse to give up.

Funny, the problem with our U21 men and woman's teams had nothing to do with money, but a lack of enough players overall in the US. Anyways, I am looking forward to those of you I will be meeting and even more to an awsome compitition with elite teams from all around. I hope miracles happen and more countries find ways to come and enjoy the excitement.

No south african teams going to world champs,no sponsor, no trip. sorry guys!!
