View Full Version : Polo Videos via Internet?

Hi All,

I have been told that one of the best training techniques offwater is through watching videos of both myself and other, more seasoned, players. While I would love to get a dedicated camera-person at my polo sessions, I think that would be pretty hard to do.

So the next best thing is to see if anyone out there has videos and is willing to share with the rest of us via the world wide web. Obviously this would require the videos to be some mpeg, avi, wmv, etc file.

If there are such files out there, one way we could transfer these things would be some p2p software like Kazaa or Bit Torrent or anything else. Would anyone else be interested in sharing training videos and such?

The problem that the United States has is too few experienced players spread over too many kilometers, so we rarely get too see lots and lots of different styles and techniques.

Thanks in advance for your help and have a great new year.

hi

After the worlds in essen 2002 they made three mpeg's, I think, videos of Aus-Bra, Germany-France and Germany-Taiwan... the quality is very bad, but it is still useful... especially the game between germany and taiwan is a good lesson in shooting...and scoring :guns: :hump:

The videos were at the WC 2002 site which does not excist anymore...I think...anyway the videos are gone... Perhaps some of the germans know if it is possible to get them... if not I have them on my computer, but I practically know nothing about computers so I will have to get some help from a friend to upload them... So if you find out that none of the germans have them you can contact me...

As mrplaybus tells clyde made some videos of the to finals and parts of the semis at he EC 2003, which should be very good... I assume this is on vhs, but he will probably be able to send it to you...

Well,

I know that Clyde sells some very nicely shot videos; but I wanted to try and share footage with others via the internet. Needless to say, I don't think people would like it too much if I bought a video and gave free copies to everyone else all over the world. That is why I am asking for personal footage that people would not mind sharing.

This means that we can view some amatuer videos on our pc/macs or if we really want some better training videos, we can order them from people who produce them.

I found an ftp server with France vs Germany.

ftp://ftp.kajak.org.pl/pub/ftp.kajak.org.pl/filmy/Kajak-polo/

I didn't view the entire movie, but it's about 164 meg large.

Check also the upper dirs. Lot of all kind of footage there @ ftp://ftp.kajak.org.pl/pub/ftp.kajak.org.pl/filmy/

Hi all,

If you don't have high speed internet access and would like to download the files from Essen, I will put them in my shared directory for Kazaa, therefore you can download the file a piece at a time. Since I am in the process of downloading these files, I don't know what the exact file names will be so I will update y'all on that. I will also put a DVD file on the Kazaa of the last US nationals with the US Mens (or one of the US club teams) vs Welsh Dragons. In addition, I will seed a small segment that the US kids station Nickalodean broadcasted about the US youth Canoepolo.

Since I will be the only one seeding these files on Kazaa for the present time, my upload rate will be regulated to about 5-7 kB/s since I don't want to choke the server and lose my internet priveleges at University. Once others have downloaded the entire file, there will be more seeds (make sure you share these files if you download them) and the uploads will be better.

One last thing, do some research before you upload Kazaa and start using it. The real version of Kazaa is loaded with spyware that the company has embedded so as to see what you do on your PC. There are some under the radar software you can download to protect you from this spyware, but it is still iffy. Kazaa Lite is a version of Kazaa that is stripped of the spyware but the people who wrote the software are being sued and so you can't find it online anymore. I happen to have the executable available so email me if you want it and I can email you a link to my personal site.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Cheers,
--Tony

Oh yea, if there are others will to share some more videos, please contact me and tell me where I can find them...or if they are not available for download, could some of y'all snail mail me a copy of a CD and I will make them available.

I received an interesting video from Daniel Roelandt from KCC. This footage has been made by the belgian TV RTBF and broadcast just after the 2003 tournament.

Video is 40 Mb. Click here (http://users.pandora.be/LUS/seneffe_2003.mpeg)

Is kazaa safe regarding some virusses? I heard some stories about that, and I wonder if every user sharing canoepolo files have a good anti-virus program installed.

If one user gets infected, others will follow soon I guess.

Just to warn...

The reason why you may have trouble to download the videos right now, is that the server ,where the files stand on, has lately broken down. Menno is working on it, so please have a little patience. I'll inform you when it is working again.

The head of the harddisk with the OS on it hit the surface of the disk and had to be replaced. Reconfiguring took some time and at this time most of the functions are working again.

The movies. I've added extra movies. As of today you can find 3 movies from Essen and 6 movies of Japan. The first 3 are in mpg format so no extra codec is needed. As far as I know the other 6 are in xvid format (maybe divx). So you have to download additional codecs (google: xvid/divx codec download). If you want to be sure about the format of the last 6, just have a look around on this forum. You should be able to find the original posts about these movies...

Because of the load on this server, the movies are only available through ftp.

Summarizing the connection info:

address: egel.student.utwente.nl
user: canoepolo
passwd: essen

direct link: ftp://canoepolo:essen@egel.student.utwente.nl

Most of the time it's faster to use a real ftp client like Filezilla (free) or WsFtp, CuteFtp or one of the many others. Most of these clients are capable of resuming a download so you don't have to leave your pc on all the time.

Menno

(if you want to contact me, a private message [PM] will be fastest, because I don't look here very often these days...)

Did you say witch this, that you have more movies? but you only need more space in the hard disk!

Menno

I at least have some extra movies from the world championships in Japan (the same as Grincer put available a time ago). At tis time half of it are not on the ftp. I must say that most of the ones not on it are commercials, introductions etc, so no real games.
Furthermore I must have a game from the lowest class of the netherlands somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment...

So yes I've got some extra video's, but more important at this moment the video's online cost me about 15% of my space available in the server...
So I wouldn't mind an extra harddisk. I wouldn't mind sharing the video's others have found, like the ondes mensioned here in this thread...
