Many teams are confronted by difficult discissions relating to funding for this years worlds. (ie will we be able to afford to attend?)

Could we compare teams predicted budgets? Especially for things such as costs of flights from europe, accomodation at the event and living costs.

It will cost each of the Australian players about $4000-5000AUD (which is about 2400-3000 euro) for our 8 days in Japan.
Of this the airfare will be about $2000-2500AUD (about $1200-1500euro) the same cost as flying to Europe!!!
In comparison our Development teams had 3 weeks in Europe last year for the same cost!
That is why we will not be sending either U21 Men or Women to Japan- it is better value and better development for our future players to go to Europe.

I ask myself, how many teams will play in Japan?
About Italy I can tell:
Senior Men - sure!
Senior Women - not yet sure, if we improve could be.
U21 Men - not yet sure
U21 Women - No.

Australia will only send Senior Men and Senior Ladies to Japan.
I believe New Zealand is doing the same.

New Zealand is definately sending both senior teams......our costs are about nz$7000 + ( EU 3600+). Mind you this is the same as our normal worlds trips to Europe or Brazil in 2000.

The cost of playing polo at international level is high!

well, i think i deserve that one.... but....

still sounds better than 'we only have enough players to send one men's team, let alone the women teams' ;-)

ps: No, we don't fly first class! We have booked a private jetT :silly:

Hi,

From the answers so far on the different forums, I have worked out the following (maybe means maybe OR no comment):

Senior men: 13 yes 4 maybe 2 no
Senior ladies: 10 yes 5 maybe 4 no
U21 men: 2 yes 10 maybe 7 no
U21 ladies: 0 yes 5 maybe 14 no

The following 7 countries that were at the last worlds have not replied:
Argentina
Brasil
Chinese Taipei (although they should be there!)
Hungary
Iran
Latvia
Namibia
Poland

Hopefully some of those who have replied will do so, and other will be able to clarify their 'maybe', but that's it so far!

Japan is going to be an expensive trip for most. I would not get too excited counting up who will be there until all is booked and paid for. Most teams are looking for some funding still. In Brazil it was only after the final schedule was printed did we discover that 2 confirmed teams were in fact not playing.

The second angle to the cost is the quality of teams. It's a case of if you can pay you can play for many. Hard to predict which teams will turn up on the day.

Hi,

South AFrica has confirmed that we will be sending an U21 men's team only. No senior teams. All is booked and paid for, so they will be there!!!!

It will cost just over R20 000 per player to attend = roughly 2500 euro / dollars (exchange rate is changing all the time!)
