Feeling as though this wouldn't fit in with the funny moments I thought I'd share certain memories of mine that I find fascinating.

When anyone gets airborn playing polo, I find it really awesome. My coach showed my a game video between Aus and Ger-at the start of the game both sprinters were travelling the fastest I've ever seen sprinters go and the Aussie player goes low and the German player goes high. It was like a jet off an air craft carrier. The german player must of flew 3 metres behind the Aussie before he hit the water.

Another memory not to long ago-Brad(Canada Men) was in a scap game playing against the Welsh. I believe it was Howie who had the ball and Brad was beside him about to tackle him, he does a crossbody hand tackle and pushes himself and his boat completely off the water while tackling Howie. Biggest hand tackle I've ever seen and even though Howie was submerged under water with the weigh of Brad pushing down on him-howie still didn't go over. :bfire:

I have this great story, (and it happened about six times last night)

see keegan had the ball see and he was in his new boat see, so I reached over and lightly taped him on the sholder, next thing ya know keegans under water and evereybody's laughing at him.

It might not have been as epic as the other two stories but it was still a great moment. :stupid:

Yes, well, see, I'm finding this boat somewhat narrow. It was funny the first few times I went under for no reason, but it is starting to get a little tiring. It is a nice boat to paddle though! When it is floating upright.

As much as I like making fun of Keegan :D ,
this thread is getting a little (or a lot) off topic. Come on people, there must be more great moments in the history of canoe polo out there somewhere. Lets here it.

One great moment that I remember from the European championships in Ireland 2003, in the game of Italy agains the Netherlands...

I think it was the second half... NL were winning anyway, it was near the end of the game, and Italy had the ball..... they were trying to attack... ;-)....

But then with about 10-15 seconds left on the clock, the Dutch stole the ball, and were trying to get their asses and the ball up the other end of the pitch.

Erwin Roos (7) went to the left side of the pitch, and was positioned about 1 m away from the sideline on about the 6m line nearest to the Dutch goal.

He had the ball, and was looking for the counter pass, but all the Dutch players were covered... only about 6 seconds on the clock... What the hell, just go for it....

The Italian defending him is ready to block the ball going above him, so Erwin takes a (kind of) under-arm throw to avoid the block of the paddle... and WHOOSSHHH..... the ball is in flight...... 4 seconds left.... "we are traveling at a altitude of about 5 meters above the water, at a speed of -very very fast-"... 2 seconds.... nearly there... will it go in (of course we know cos other wise i wouldn't write this here!)...

The ball bounced off the bottom bar, and then bounced totally into the goal... BEEP. it was maybe 0.5 of a second just before the signal for full time.

The croud just couldn't believe it. so far, with such little time, and a defender, and STILL a goal!

That's one of the great moments I saw.
But hey, who CAN"T do it?
Robski. :o

At low level Polo-ing
3 sec to go and I was under water with the ball.
I came up and scored the winning ball of the game.

The most amazing team thing I have ever seen is the Dutch playing Germany in the semi-finals in Essen 2002.
Individually watching Alan V. in Brazil. Beating his mark in a five out situation in his own end with the ball and taking off to the other end!

Just curious, what exactly was so amazing in the match Holland - Germany?

I think it was when the Dutch blitzed the Germans by taking them man on, from the very start.
Everyone was stunned at the confidence the Dutch lads showed in doing that.

Ooh, I've been watching that match on Video lately...

I don't know if it was just the Dutch to blame for the Blitz...

The Germans seemed to be as shocked as the croud was, missing MANY open shots at goal, hitting the cross bars of the goals, and even at one stage having an illegal substitution (for which the REF DID NOT do anything!!! in a semi-final of a world champs!!).

The Germans were totally not into that game, but of course, that's the shock you get when playing against the big dutch lads who decide to do a 5 out from the first minute!!

;-)

Rob,

Can I get/buy a copy of that video? It sounds like I really would like to see that one...

That was an amazing act.
I think it was Erwin who brought that German from the offence line to the defence line.

If Rob still is in Russia. I think there are more people of Groningen who have that tape.
