Hi All,
I was just wondering what interest there would be from teams participating in a London and South east based Local League.
we could maybe have to classes one for national league based teams and the other for non league teams or the lower level Div4s just a thought.
your thoughts please
cheers

Good idea Mark.

As well as numerous Meridian teams other clubs such as Clapham
, Battersea, ULU could be interested.

there are other Junior teams which could be drawn in as well.

Is this just London or L&SE?

In which case you may get others like Martlet, Tandridge,Braintree?

what are you proposing?

Indoors, or Outdoors? How many leagues. Which venues?

Meridian A are too good and a bit pointless in them entering I think? Unless they only play with 4 players?

I am only trying to see if there would be interest we can get venues without any real problem winter or Summer indoors or outdoors. I was looking to target senior teams with this but the junior teams would of course be welcome

I would suggest that the venues would be london based but if a team from outside of london would be more than welcome .
there is no reason that they could even be from outside of the region but they wouldn't be able to be the regional champions but they could be the competion winners

nice idea mark, cambridge uni would definately like to play in a SE/london regional league. having the venue london based is probably best, but we could hold a fixture if you like (we have parking issues thought...). how many dates were you looking at? is it going to run concurrently with the national league season or through the summer season?

cheers,
Alex

ps watch out everyone - we're gonna win div 3 :headbang:

I'd be very impressed if you did manage to win Div 3, seeing as your in Div 4 central this season ! :-)

Good idea mark - has been a while since this has happened.

One thing that worked quite well (at Crystal Palace a few years ago) was to handicap the teams from higher divisions by a goal plus an additional goal for every division higher they were (ie a div 3 team starts 0-2 down to a div 4 team and so on). I think this is how the SW regional league works too. made for an enjoyable tournament.

I'm sure ULU would be interested as well.

Would this be a series of league dates? or a one off all-day effort?

Cheers

I s'pose some team or teams from St Albans might deign to grace proceedings. :p

Which one or ones that would be would depend on the level of entries.

It *might* be worth having a word with Luton too as and when plans are firmer. I've never noticed any of them here, think they'd be likely to be interested 'tho.

I will get entry forms and other info together this week

Paddy I have included the date I would guess you would hold the Clapham competion on just for info however if you want to include it in this as one of the league dates thats your call. For this year I am planning on using the meridian facilities as a base for the league. I hope none minds to much. Anyway the dates are as follows
28-Mar Local League Hornfair
18-Apr Possible Clapham Clapham
02-May Local League Hornfair
13-Jun Local League Hornfair
01-Aug Local League Danson
05-Sep Local League Danson
19-Sep Local League Danson

would all teams interested in competing in this league leave a comment to that effect here. All are welcome. If we have a high number of entries then we will move all of the competions to Danson as it is fairly simple to setup additional playing area.

It may also be possible for teams to attend competions on an adhoc basis but this will depend on the number of entries I am looking to charge £30 a team for each event

It would be a great shame if the Clapham tournament did not happen. April offers very few competitive dates so a trip down to Clapham for Blakedown is always good! and I'm sure it's good for other non London based teams too!

I hope Paddy that you still intend to run it.

We would miss the Clapham tournament if that fixture was replaced with a regional league fixture instead!

I never said he wouldn't that is just the date I guessed it would be and included it for publicity so what are the chances of blakedown joing our regional league as well

We don't mind travelling for the occasional fixture but we cannot make all those dates.

With all the summer tournament dates, scouting weekend dates and holidays we could never do it over the summer, as much as we would like to!

This is why the Clapham fixture is good for us because we get to play some teams that we don't ususaly meet and it is just a one off date at a time that suits us.

However regional leagues are a good idea as it gives teams that can't get into Nat league a chance to play and is ideal for developing players!

I'm sure St Albans will be able to get a team together. How strict will you be on team members Mark? I'm guessing Cambridge Uni (and St Albans to some extent) will not be able to get consistent teams to attend during the Summer months. (During the summer, most of the Cam Uni team members will be returning to the North and might not be able to get down to London every month).

If there was more flexibility to the rules than National League, it'd make things a whole lot easier.

I have been away - hence no earlier replies.

Your guess of the date for the Clapham tournament at Tooting Lido is a good one (i.e. Sunday April 18th). To be confirmed in a few weeks.

I will try to get people from Clapham interested in the L&SE league. I am fairly sure that Battersea will also be interested.

Mark

Is every team expected to attend every tournament or is it like
Nat leages you attend 4 out of 6 ?

I think there is a Div 3 on 27th March so that would clash!

Hi Paddy,

This is my plan its a little different to the norm. but as its the 1st year of the league I think it may appeal in order to have your results count towards the league title you have to play in a minimum of 3 tournaments all though you can take your best 4 results from the season to decide who the overall winner is. This means that each tournament will run effectively as a standalone tournament. so it will work kind of like a grand Prix series. If a team wants it can attend all the tournaments I am aiming to maximise participation with this series of events.
I will cancel the 1st tournament then paddy seeing as it is causing a problem for so many teams. Does this mean you are playing? cmon Guys lets start getting some commitment and requests for entry forms in!

Mark

ps if a team only wants to play in one or two tournamements they are welcome to, but they will not be considered in the calculations for the overall title.

OK - I mentioned this last week and we seem to have enough players to enter. so put Clapham down although we may not make it to every tournament I will try to get a team for each one.

hi mark,

cheers for sorting this out so far - I guess the guys from uni will be interested. Ill chat to them at training and get back to you. its unlikely that we can play many of the tournaments, since we go home for the summer, but we'll do our best. will get back to you soon...

Mark,

Please add ULU to your list - i'd imagine that we won't be able to make all of the tournaments, bu tthere's a decent chance that we'll have teams together for some of them...

May even get a Meridian B side out. Or am i just being silly there?!

Thanks for your efforts on this one...

Hey there,
I'm heading to Essex in April and looking for a club to join.
I've played a bit in New Zealand and want to continue in the UK.
I'm 25 so need to play in old buggars grade.
Any suggestions?
Andrew

HI Andrew

There are loads of clubs in London... although not so many in Essex. It depends what level you are playing at, and whether you will be investing in your own kit (boat/paddle etc) or bringing it with you.
Meridian, Clapham, Battersea, Regents to name a few. They all cater to different levels of player. Although none really have the same weekly league system that you may have been used to in NZ.
If you want to chat more offline, then send me an e-mail:
andi.fear-ross@barcap.com

Otherwise, to look for more clubs, Clyde's website has quite a useful page:
http://www.clydespolopage.com/cpclubs/cpclubs.htm

When are you coming over?

Hi Andrew,

You are more than wellcome to play with us in Battersea, a bit far from Essex but I also live miles away (upton park) and still go to enjoy the polo sessions in Putney. We have a really fun and relaxed atmosfere, go to the pub after every training and do many other activities (white waters, kayak-surfing,....) last month we organized a trip to NZ, and played in Palmerston
North Polo competition, were you there?

We'll play next year in 3rd division. If you are interested drop me an email or visit our web site:

Hi All,
I am still trying to restart the Regional league.

the dates will now be.

02-May Local League Hornfair
13-Jun Local League Hornfair
01-Aug Local League Danson
05-Sep Local League Danson
19-Sep Local League Danson

All tournaments wil be based at either Hornfair Lido or Danson Park. Both venues are in SE London. The League may consist
of 1,2 or 3 divisions depending on the entries and I plan to consult with each of the teams before finally allocating which
division they will play in. The League will run like a grand prix with you being able to take best 4 tournament results from the season
IF a team scratches its result from a tournamnet it has played in it does not affect the number of point that would have been allocated to the other
teams and results against the team still count. It will be possible to play as a guest team and any team that attends 2 or
less competions will be regarded as a guest team and although they can win an individual tournament they will not affect the results of the grand prix
over the season. The league is being managed in this way to maximise participation and as far as I am concerned that is the main purpose of the league.
If you have any further queries please either email me or post them on here I do check the site reguarly so I will get back to you.

I have attached a copy of the entry form for the League, please feel free to forward both the entry form and this post onto anyone you feel maybe interested.

HI Mark

Which teams are playing on the 13 June?
Just wondered if any might like to play some games on the Saturday at Danson as well.

Can you let me know.
