2) How often is the trial conducted?
3) Is there any requirement before you can go for the national trial? e.g age, playing experience, financial terms...
4) Do SCF send people to clubs and instituitions to scout for potential national player??

I dun tink you have to be in a good team to get into national team. I tink they choose individually, not as a team. :p

No, there is no need to be in a top team to get into the squad. As long as your personal skills (i.e good paddle skills, boat control, shooting, passing, etc.) are proficient, your fitness level is there and you are able to commit for the season (i.e. 1 year), you would stand a chance to enter the Nat. Squad (Training). From there, the coach will select players for each competition .
2) How often is the trial conducted?
Trials are usually conducted once a year, but this is not fixed. Usually notice will be sent out 1-2 months in advance .
3) Is there any requirement before you can go for the national trial? e.g age, playing experience, financial terms...
Usually for selections, the minimum age limit is 16 years. SCF will not be able to fully sponsor the players for competitions. What usually happens is that SCF pays for the entry fees and the players pays for everything else, unless there are sponsors. So, you must be prepared to pay your own way .
4) Do SCF send people to clubs and instituitions to scout for potential national player??
No, any scouting will usually be done during the Nat. Champs.
e.g. during the Nat. Champs this year, Andrew and Guo Dong(spelling ?) was invited to join the Nat. Squad for the Oceania, but they turn down the offer because of either NS or personal committments.
5) Do I need to pay for the trial? hehe.... and lastly
Usually yes. For the last selections I think the selectees paid $10 each. Don't know about the future selections.
6) Others that I need to know.
If you want to join the Nat. Squad, be prepared to make a lot of sacrifices cause canoe polo is not a "core" sports and receive very little support from the sports council and SCF is unable to do much for the team on the financial side.

Must be Financially Well? Not true. Most of the
present Nat. Squad players especially the students, actually started to save up when they join the squad.
What it takes is a lot of sacrifices for other things like going to the movies and clubbing less. :silly:
It is a sad but true fact of sports in S'pore that if the sports is not part of the Spex 2000 or "core" sports program e.g. soccer, the particular sports gets very little fundings and supports from SSC.
SoOooo, until canoe polo becomes a formal event in either the Sea Games, Asian Games, Olympics or etc., we would just have to bear with the situation. :drunk:
