Hi all,
Doing a little OT discussion here. I've come to realise many players in CP Singapore have a little history in other sports before they play polo. These sports help tremendously when it comes to playing canoe polo.
I'll start by listing some sports which help certain polo skills, yeah? Who knows, maybe you guys can start dabbling in these sports to improve your polo skills. Oh and of course, we hope we don't lose you to these sports I'm going to name...
Rowing
1. Sprint canoeing
Throwing
1. Water polo
2. Javelin
3. Most racquet games
4. Softball
Positioning/Strategising
1. Most ball games, eg basketball, soccer etc

If you happen to have an (indoor?) climbing wall inyour neighbourhood sports climbing (the indoor version of rock climbing) is a very good training for polo: it strenghtens your muscles, improves coordination and is great fun when doing it as a team effort (teambuilding).
badminton
basketball
soccer
bowling ??? maybe for refs to throw the ball in the middle for a fair start :frosty: LOL

I did flatwater canoeing for several years. 200m, 500m, and 1000m + longer events such as marathon distances. All the short distance padling and weight training really helps to go very fast in polo. We also have a very good technique so that we use both arms and back good.
The long distance training has helped to endure a lot of matches without being tired fast.
Also been running a lot, playing soccer and fieldhockey (innebandy) also.
Just need to really get into the game of canoe polo now. Need a lot of practice to get the throwing and different techniques in place

I did long jump and triple jump back in my school days... doesn't seem to be relevant to canoe polo though...
But now I really enjoy the canoe polo! Goes to show that canoe polo appeals to people who used to do all kinds of sports; not only those sports which train skills useful in canoe polo :ninja:

Not really relevant though... not much chance to smack that yellow-stripping ball into the goal. Only once and that's it.... and being able to leap high doesn't really help in the boat, do they? I still like polo though!!!!! :D

I played soccer, table tennis, badminton, basketball and a few others during my secondary school years and im still playing now...i think basketball did help me in canoepolo cos the size of the ball is much more bigger than polo ball, hence improve my gripping and ball handling in canoepolo...in term of strategy...like canoepolo, basketball is also a 5 a side sport and everyone is require to be able to play in any positions...so i find some similarities in both sports which help me to adapt to canoepolo faster...
