I was wondering what kind of press we got at the championships. With a view for the next time we need sponsorship, it would be nice to point to previous media coverage. Since I was there watching I missed alot of it.
So where and when and what media did we appear?

Today FM played a requst for the Irish Womens team and discussed what the hell polo was.
I heard CK FM gave us some air time too.

What day were we in the Irish times?
And did Aertel carry the results?

Who else has what??????

There were a few pics in the Irish Times and Irish Independent, both had results (of Irish teams) in the results section. I thisk the Evening Hearld will be doing an article this week (possibly Thursday) on the event.

Grainne should have most of the details but I also saw an article i in the Evening Herald and the Liffey Champion. I think it was the same article.

NEWSPAPERS
As Conor said the Irish Independent and Times both had colour photos.
Irish Times also gave results of Ireland marches.
Evening Herald did article last week and another expected this week.
Liffey Champion had photo and article.
Leinster Leader covered the event so keep an eye out tomorrow for coverage.
The Irish Examiner will also cover it tomorrow, 2 pages of the sports supplement.

RADIO
CKR FM gave results of Ireland matches each day on sports bulliten after news.
As far as I know Tom Colton did an interview with both LIR FM and CKR FM on Saturday.
Jimmy Magee was in Kilcock on Thursday and spoke about it on Five Seven Live on Friday evening for over 2 minutes. He also promised to give the results of finals in his Sunday afternoon Sports programme, did anybody hear them?

TV
A production company Blackflash Productions came over from London to film the event. They will have an edited film ready today and Transworld International and Sports News have agreed to distribute it worldwide. I'll try to find out viewing times if the Irish TV channels buy it and let you know by posting here.

MAGAZINES
A new Irish Adventure sport magazine, called OUTSIDER is due out in the shops on 7th September. Jon Hynes is the Canoe/Kayak contributer and he has been in touch with me for information about the competition.

It would be nice to get some articles and photos into the UK magazines too, anybody out there willing to write up something??

Thats all I can think of at the moment, considering there was a rugby international , premierships and natioanl community games on the same weekend, we didn't do too bad on media coverage...and its not over yet.

If anybody sees articles anyplace , please post here to let us all know.

The article Conor is on about should be in Thursdays Evening Herald, it's not just about polo, but paddling in general.

AFAIK, the Irish Examiner are doing a piece about it in the Wednesday Arena Supplement.

My parents heard Jimmy Magee on the radio mentioning it at the begining of the Sunday sports programme. I also have a copy of the atricle in the Arena section of the 'De Paper'.

There are two full pages in The Examiner (Weds 20th)....mainly discussing the chances of Canoe Polo getting to the Olympics. The photos are excellent....one of G and the other of Fabio.

The Leinster Leader also has an article in the "Style" section with photos of spectators, another one of Fabio and one of me.

Who taslked to the guy from "de Paper". The main thing that comes out of it to the uninformed is that it is a game with a violent past which has been stamped out by rule changes (An opinion attributed to the ECA chairman). It is also full of inaccuracies such as "there is no legal way to tackle in this game". It's great to see coverage and it does look spectacular but with the growing tendency for selective and creative reporting care has to be taken to see the reporting is as accurate as possible.

Well done Grainne on the coverage. It will help in the future provided it can be built on from now on.

The journalist, Brendan O'Brien from Irish Examiner came to Kilcock on Friday morning to watch the Ireland v Belgium Senior Womens game. He interviewed Albert Woods, ECA president for a long while and was delighted with it as Albert had lots to say and thats how he decided to angle the article on the Olympics. He also interviewed Maire Diggin, Womens captain and haD telephone interview later on with Carmel Vekins.

As the Irish were ahead they held possesion of the ball and 'counted down the clock'. From a spectators point of view it could easily have appeared that there was no way to tackle. I also know from talking to Albert that he would be keen to introduce some measure such as a stop clock to prevent this type of play. The aim being to make it more appealing to spectators, which can only be good for the sport.

I know that was the intention of the comments but if you read the article it comes across differently and is a little ill informed. On the shot clock that is a different question. Runing down the clock is a dangerous thing in polo. Try it against the Dutch and see how you get on as they put on the pressure at 5 out or eeven 4 and 1. What the journalist saw was a weakness on the Belgian players part which the irish exploited not neccesarily a weakness of the game. :twocents:

Yes, there were obvious inaccuracies in the article. Unfortunately we have no control over what journalists write, except to get them to interview the most knowledgable people in the sport. As some might say "No publicity is bad publicity". We need to build on the contacts we have made in the press and follow up with information on next seasons National League Competitions.

Ciao, here in Italy our federation contacted few national media and so when I came back home received congratulations by my friends that knew about our results by Tv.
Several local newspapers talks about the players.
Probably could be interesting for next competitions have professional video to send immediatly to the national federations and their press agency so television could have the possibility to reply it on tv.

Donza,

Yes, there was a professional film crew in Kilcock on Saturday and Sunday. The film was edited by Tuesday 19th and sent to TV stations worldwide by an agency called SNTV or TransWorld International.

They are now making a video that will be for sale soon. The production company is called Blackflash and based in London. www.blackflash.co.uk
