Can EWP bring a rain/wind shelter for this event? Chris, Dale, Darryl? We will be glad to help set it up.

Also please note that ALL America's Cup team members are STRONGLY encouraged to be there. Please remember that although your participation in these camps is not part of the selections for the 2004 Worlds teams, most of your peers and potential selectors will be there keeping an eye out on who is present and more importantly NOT present at these camps. Anyone truly serious about making the next teams will be there and have all the upcoming polo dates on their calendars.

Also I would like to specifically add that those persons who are NOT able to participate in the America's Cup (or have declined to participate for whatever reason) and who are up to the minimum standards, but would like to keep up their training, ARE invited to these training camps.

HOWEVER, these persons should note that all coaching priority will be given to members of the team and there may be certain drills, games that you are not part of. Typically, we would believe that where America's team members are not present, you would be asked to fill in and make up for a shortage of members. Also please note that you may be asked to play at a level below you normal standard, so check please your ego's at the door. This is an accommodation that we hope is beneficial to both team and non-team members.

Also it is important to note that Canada Canoe Polo is continually developing certain playing styles and tactics. Attendance at these camp for ALL polo players is important so you do not miss these crucial team developments.

Boat Transportation:
EWP has advised that they only have room to take boats for EWP members on their trailer. This means that the following persons will have to arrange for boat transportation to Los Angeles;

Peace Paddlers- Jamen, Dylen, Jeff, Tessa
WWK- Rob, Judy, Clinton, Kyle, Tina, Brad, Jorden, Tyler, Lee
Cottonwood- Keegan, Tyler, Heather
(16 boats)

I have spoken to Clinton and he has advised that he would take the WWK trailer. However we will have to have a trailer hitch installed on his vehicle, and fix the trailer wiring. Clintons gas costs for this will be fully reimbursed. It is anticipated that for each boat a fee between $75 and $100 will be charged. Thanks Clinton for taking on this large responsibility. There will be limited room for paddle and minimal gear transport.

Also people who do not own boats you will need to make arrangements with you various clubs to have boats rented (Tyler, Jorden, etc.) Peace Paddlers and Cottonwood you will have to make arrangements with Clinton to get your boats to him.
************************************************** ************************************************** ***********
Boat Colors:
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL BOAT TOP DECK COLORS WILL BE RED. NO EXCEPTIONS. SO START GETTING YOU MAC-TACK READY AND START FIGURING OUT WHAT BOATS YOU ARE ALL TAKING.

Also in the next few days I will sort our the teams colors completely. Right now we have standardized on the following:

************************************************** ************************************************** ***********
Team Captains:
Can I get the team recommendations for team captains for the Mens A, Mens B, Womens A and Womens B teams? With regards to U21 men we need to see who is really playing and for the U17X and Y I will be speaking to Chris Goss about this.
************************************************** ************************************************** ***********
Car Rentals:
Due to the hotel being at least 5 miles from the competition location we will need ground transportation. We will be organizing this very soon to help minimize the number of vehicles rented. Stay tooned for more information.
************************************************** ************************************************** ***********
Itinerary
For those persons who are flying in and out we will need you flight arrival and departure times/locations to be able to coordinate pickups and drop-offs at the airports. Note that Burbank is the close airport and I believe that Air Canada does fly there.

For all players we will need your Alberta Health Insurance numbers and also an emergency contact person and there phone number.

Below are some links the AHC website:
http://www.health.gov.ab.ca/faq/index.html#AHCIP

http://www.health.gov.ab.ca/coverage/ahcip/travel.html

Below is a link to a .pdf file on what AHC does and does not cover.
http://www.health.gov.ab.ca/public/document/travel.pdf

Here is what AHC does say:
What does Alberta Health Care Insurance cover when I travel out-of-province or out-of-country?
For travel within Canada, Alberta Health Care Insurance covers you for claims for medically required services. These are usually billed automatically through the provincial medical plans, provided you show your personal health card at the time of service. You are covered for the same services that would be covered in Alberta.

For travel outside Canada, Alberta Health Care Insurance covers practitioner services that are payable at the rate that an Alberta practitioner would receive on a fee-for-service basis. There are limits to the amount paid for a hospital stay. More Information

Note: Alberta Health and Wellness must receive claims for services received outside Alberta within 365 days of the date of service. You must translate foreign language claims into English before submitting them.

Download the Claim Forms, fill them in, and mail them to Alberta Health and Wellness at AHCIP, Box 1360, Edmonton AB T5J 2N3.

Health care costs outside Canada can be extremely high. You should purchase additional health insurance even for short trips to cover those costs above what the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan will pay.

The Econolodge is filling up fast and it looks like the U17 team members should try and stay where Chris Goss is at the Super 8.

In summary, it looks like we will be spread across two locations, the Econolodge and also the Super 8.

Email Chris Chris@arc.ab.ca for the details on the Super 8. Here is his email below:

"Hi Rob:

Thanks for all the work.

I have been looking into hotels for EWP members traveling with me and we
will likely be staying at The Super 8, I have got them down to $58.65 and
this includes a free continental Breakfast. I would suggest that any youth
going who's parents want me to chaperone book into the same hotel, I will
followup with details tomorrow on how to book, as I am waiting for one more
hotel to get back to me. I talked to the econo lodge and they only have 3
nonsmoking rooms left with 2 queens in the rooms. I do not know about
other room types.

Chris"

Are any of y'all thinking about camping out for the week? That is what several of us are planning. The price is right! (free) Though it does have cold showers. Although our cold showers would be much less intimidating than yours would be. ;-)

I heard camping was booked solid  I don't really care where I stay as long as we can have some fun somewhere. Andrew Chris and I might stay in a hotel though.

I was thinking about camping (since it looks like the canadian team is split up a bit anyway), but it seems that there are no more spots available? (strange since I heard it was just an open field anyway?)

Have you folks booked your camping spots already David? I'll squeeze in if you bring anybody cute.

Also, is anybody thinking of camping during the week as well? - considering that we'd have to hire a security gaurd, I think we were not going to... however, if someone (texas?) was doing it anyway, we might reconsider? It would be nice to hotel a few nights perhaps. Taking down the tents everyday will be a bit of a bother too.

Then again, I'm probably at the mercy of whoever's driving the vehicle I'm in... I think we are still working on these details.

I did not think that there was a limit on how many could camp. I think that all of the Texas crew except Rachel are packin', so you won't have to worry about security. ;-)

Hey Dave, by packin, do you mean packing heat :guns: like guns and such or packing bags for camping? It's sounds really cool!

Brian B (EWP)

Dave, Californea is a CCW state so they'll be allowed to pack 'em legally... Didn't you have to be 21 for the CCW in some states though?

A couple of items for you on the Americas Cup

1. There is no entry fee for the teams into the event. Don't forget about the Sat night dinner for $25US.

2. Due the Econolodge filling up and EWP booking at the Super 8 we have moved team headquarters to the:

Super 8 Motel
Slymar, CA
phone 818-367-0141

3. Those people looking to transport their boats on the Wapiti Club trailer need to let me know that they want to space. If you don't it is your problem to figure out how your boat will get to LA.
my email: rak_acl@agt.net The cost will be between $75-$100/boat.

4. Darryl is making team t-shirts as part of the team uniform that will be mandatory for all team members. I suspect that they will be similar to the 2001 Americas Cup shirts. We will provide details soon.

5. We will need your Alberta Health Care numbers as well as a emergency contact name and number for each of you and also for those under 18 a letter will have to be signed by your parents to allow you to go over the border without your parents. A form letter will be available soon.

6. For those flying I will need you arrival and departure information so we can coordinate pickups and drop offs at the airports.

7. Please let me know if you are planning on renting cars. We want to help reduce costs and perhaps reduce the number of rental vehicles. The info that I need is who is renting, for what days and how much room do they have for others.

David,
I didn't think there would be a limit on camping either, but when I go to register for it, it won't let me.

As for security...(kidding aside) I got the impression that it was a requirement of the park that if we were going to stay over, we had to hire a gaurd.

I'm interested in what everyone has arranged here, as budget is going to be a big deal as far as some of our people making it down or having to stay home.

Post here or email me if you like mrkeeg at hotmail.com. Thanks

Does anyone know if we can buy some Team Canada gear before or after we go? Or should us U-17 and possibly interested others look at making our own?

Posted above your post is:

"Darryl is making team t-shirts as part of the team uniform that will be mandatory for all team members. I suspect that they will be similar to the 2001 Americas Cup shirts. We will provide details soon".

So in summary you will have a team t-shirt. If you want more that is up to the individuals.

Dear Canada Canoe Polo Players,

For those people who went to Los Angeles to complete in the 2003 US National Canoe Polo Championships and in the 2003 Americas Cup, I want to congratulate you on your success, your development in the sport of Canoe Polo, and your positive and responsible behavior. You have certainly represented Canada proudly and demonstrated that the Canadian Canoe Polo program continues to develop in the right direction. If you are not aware, the 43 athlete contingent, representing seven teams (Canada Mens A, Canada Mens B, Canada Womens A, Canada Womens B, Canada U21 Men, Canada U17X and Canada U17Y) was the largest group of Canadian Canoe Polo players traveling to an international event.

Additionally I would like to thank the parents of the U17 Canoe Polo players and Chris Goss for helping to organize such a large group of young paddlers.

I hope to see many of you at the tryouts for the Senior Canadian Mens and Womens teams, for participation in the 2004 6th World Canoe Polo Championships in Miyoshi, Japan. For those not trying out, I hope you continue to stay active in Canoe Polo by attending upcoming regional training events, and canoe polo competitions.

Also I want to pass on a big thank you to US event organizers for hosting two events back to back. I had a great time and look forward to the 2004 US Nats in Austin, Texas (I think).

Best Regards,
