Hi,
I will be going to Demark Copenhagen from Aug to Dec/Jan for student exchange at the Copenhagen Business School.
Is there anyone playing polo somewhere near that area? I would love to be in touch, play some polo and make some friends in Denmark.
Hope to see you.
Ken

No problem! There are four good clubs within 20 km. My own club, Skovshoved, as well as Holte, Neptun and a "new" club in Copenhagen. Tell us where you'll get to live, the level of your game and what your are looking for in a club and we'll find the right club for you. Each of the four mentioned have advantages/ disadvantages.
We are looking forward to see you in Denmark.
Cheers, Asger.

My number 1 objective is to meet as many polo friends as possible! So if I can play a few times at each club that will be great!
I'm not sure what my level is compare the the club in Denmark. My friend who went to Australia said we probably can play in div 2 there at our best. Any ideas?
I'm 30 and had been playing for about 9 years.
What are the months that polo is played?
What's the temperature like from Aug to Dec?
I'm also thinking of bringing my paddle. Do you think someone would buy it? I hope not to bring it along when I tour europe after the exchange.
so many questions... Thanks for the help! :)

You've been playing for a long time. Longer than any of us in Denmark. Since we are close to Germany, and have been fortunate to have a Brittish coach (Clyde) we are ahead of schedule though, and we probably play on the same level. Individually, the best players are good, but teamwise we are still strugling with lack of experience.
You will be probably be able to train in more than one club, but if there is a turnament in november/ december, you will have to pick just one club to play for. The present rules prevent you from playing in the final rounds of the top-league when you first get here, but you might get a chance to play in other turnaments in Denmark or Germany.
My own club is presently the best in the area. We have the most good players and good facilities despite the lack of a pitch!!! :( We travel to turnaments 10 times more than any other club, and have teams in both the two leagues. We will have lots of pooltime when it gets cold.
On the first team, we range from 21-33 years of age, and the best of us have generally played for 5 years. The club is a great place for other sorts of rowing and canoing too.
The new club in Copenhagen contains 3-4 good players and will be close to your school. They just achieved good fundings and they might grow a lot during the summer. They might get good pooltimes too.
Holte has presently the best pitch, but lousy hours in the pool when it gets colder (late september). The old team has moved on, and rarely play. The two best players (two of the very best in Denmark) are building a new team which is allready doing quite well.
Finally, Neptun, is a newcomber in danish polo. If you are looking for a coaching-challenge, these might be the guys to work with. They are young, agile and hardworking.
Is the school helping you find a place to stay? Otherwise let us know!
Cheers, Asger.

I had played a while but our standard here in Singapore is still low due to limited facilities and playing opportunities.
Hope to learn more from you guys while I in Copenhagen.
The school will be arranging accomodation for me, will let you guys know once that I get details.
Thanks!

Hi Ken
I'm sure that any of the polo-clubs situated in and around Copenhagen will :welcome: you.
So you should just get your gear together and contact us when you know your address - then we'll provide you with contacts at the nearest clubs and you can go and have a try....
Looking forward to see you !

Hi all,
An update on my address from 16 Aug to 31 Dec
GAMMEL KONGEVEJ 25, ST, RM 65B, 1610 KØBENHAVN V
Which club would be most ideal for me?
What gear do I need to bring?
I'm hoping I do not have to bring my kayak as I have plenty to carry already. :P
Do I need cold weather gear? I only have long sleeves thin rashguards
Thanks!

The closest will be the "new" club in Copenhagen. They do have pooltime in the winter but if you want to paddle outside in the fall you'll need warm stuff. We do have good supliers though.
Hanne and Jacob H. from the club are the most active on this forum. Arrange everything with Hanne... she is the practical wizard right now
:welcome:
Do come by and train with Skovshoved too though.

Hi Ken
Don't bring your kayak or pagaj, you can borrow here.
I'm living a bit down the road from you : at no 87, so just contact me when you have settled in, and I'll show you our luxuriant premises.
We will be outdoor untill end september, but with the possibillity to go indoor from medio august - I think...
In september wetsuit is recommenable, but deffinately not a nesessity.
Sees you soon :wavey:
