Does anyone think the UK is up for hosting a future Canoe Polo World Championship? Have we got the venues to host them?

the biggest thing against running a worlds is that the host federation has to pay all costs.
NO money comes from ICF or the competing nations and the BCU and BCU polo committee do not have £50K (ish) to spend. By the way the figure is my best and very well infromed guess.

ps. Running a champs is also a huge drain on the "volunteer goodwill" of a nation, since a huge amount of "free" man hours are required.

oh and just to head of future questions I was the "Competition Orgainiser" for the '94 worlds, held in Sheffield UK

yeah but couldn't we get the money from somewhere else, hosting the worlds would help the UK's chance of hosting the 2012 olimpics (soz) much better because it would show them that we have the resources to do something like that on a golbal scale.

Money from somewhere else? That's alot of sponsorship money to raise and players etc have tried over the years, with little success. I was told by the national sports fondation that to reply 'when I had a little more experience!!'

As for volunteers we can't even get enough people to run leagues, take committee posts and how many people play the game overhere?

not surprisingly I agree with alan

and by the way we don't have the resources to stage a world champs, so what is the value in trying to prove that we do.....

We might have the venues to stage it if the U21 wasn't in it.
But that certainly wouldn't cover the issue of all the bodies required to do everything or the funding.

The U21 class is proving a major hurdle for any future prospective hosting Nation as the whole event must be completed in a specified time frame.

Oh, and Alan, if 20 years experiance isn't enough, then I guess you better keep practicing - or marry into a good family who can support you !

Ok so worlds may be out of the question but what about europeans?

I thought that liverpool was going to try and host these in 2007 (but I may have the year miles wrong there)

France and Belgium already have bids in for 2007 Euros and decision will be made by ECA shortly.

So far as Worlds are concerned we are already considering 2008 bids from Canada, Poland and Spain - again decision will be made soon.
