Hi everyone,
SCF has given the go ahead for this year's canoe polo champs.
According to the calander on SCF's web page, the schedule should be :
26, 27 July and 02 August > Preliminary
03 August > Finals

I need your feedback abt the dates, else we will more or less be using them.

Anyone wif any objections pls voice them, if majority of the ppl can't make it, then it could still be change now. Once it is fixed.........

M@D,

I strongly suggest the organising committee gather the captains of various teams to sit down and discuss this.

Thanks for the advise Raymond,
the arrow shot down these few days, so a lot of things
have not been decided yet..
what i'm trying to do is to get the opinion of more people
so that we have a general idea when is the right time for
the competition.
oct is the oceanics, july is the traditional time for orientation programs, so actually the timing is also quite tight. My concern is more on the competition not crashing with anyone's mid-sem tests.

No worries, M@D.

I think a more important concern is the lack of lead time, rather than the best time to organise the champs.

It's mid May now. Before you know it, it'll be June. To kick start a competition in 2 months, assuming you intend to hold it around National Day period like last year, would be hell.

May be something you'd like to think about too.

Dave has also brought up to me about continuing the baton regarding referee issues. I don't mind helping out but as most of the guys should know, I have a hellish work schedule.

Pls get my contact from any SP old bird and we can discuss.

Cheers

Hi! M@D i am really not sure who you are!
Just to let u noe that i personally think the timings for the proposed Nat Champs look pretty all rite to me
I think raymond suggestion of getting the captains of schools and club like red tide together Asap to have a discussion regarding the champs is a NEcessity. The proposed timings looks a tad bit challenging.

I think the captains views are the impt ones as they will represent their entire population and an early meeting will allow the teams enough time to work on any tasks they are allocated to make the Nat CHamps a success.

I think u cannot hope to get a lot of views from this forum.. cos not all of the players visit this forum and even if they do... they are not to keen on posting their views..(.psst this is my first post ever..)

it will be good if the dates can be officially announced thru the meeting Cos rite now no one in NUS knows anything concrete about this.

yah! just my 5cents worth!

have fun!.............................................. .....................dinesh!

P.s the NUS website done by one of the players is attached

Yo, regarding the dates rite, some of the NUS pple will be involved in the NUS Triathlon (organising committee) held on Aug 3, which was the proposed date for the finals....so we would appreciate it if the timings could be adjusted....I know it's hard to accommodate everyone and maybe it's abit too much to ask for one team, but yeah, perhaps a meeting btw the various captains to discuss the timing of the championships would be the wisest thing to do right now...so that work can start asap too!!

By the way, juz for clarity's sake

The photos under the heading Roxy babes in the NUS photo gallery are not, and i repeat, ARE NOT, representative of the NUS ladies' teams.....None of us are or even remotely look like any of those barely clad bikini girls you see on your screen. (Despite the presence of many of us wearing little pieces of cloth they call swim wear too) Yup, for some strange reason, the girls there don't belong to the NUS ladies' teams at all....hmmm....

M@D
13-05-2003, 12:43 PM
hey mist, no worries abt the photos, i definately have no complains abt ppl (particular females) walking wearing little or no clothes :headbang:

itsjuzdee, thks 4 yr concern. from wat i knoe, mr henry wants all the captains to b in the organising com. the 1st meeting will be on 20 may, invitations have either gone out or will b soon.

i understand that not everyone will be in the forum, but i juz want2 throw the question out to every1. it will definately speed up the meeting if the dates that are not suitable 4 the majority are known and eliminated earlier...

i don't think the captains of the novelty/junior teams will be invited 2 the meeting, so unless some1 who knoes their schedules r representing them, no one will know whether they can take part anot, so i guess tis is one way they can actually voice their concerns.

the organisers will try to accomadate every1 (although not always possible), but without enough info, we can only act on the info we have. :D

suggestions are always welcome :welcome:

cheers

Yah yah.... i shall be serious.... ;) hee

i think it's really very early! believe last year it was held a week later (3, 4 august 2002 prelims; 10,11 august 2002 finals)..... it does make a lot of difference.....

cos traditionally, this time of the year is the week for orientation and matriculation fairs in NUS.. and the calendar for matric fair this year is 21-25 july. and the orientation week follows immediately after matric fair. so basically, the champs clashes with the whole lot of things happening in nus lah! so those who are involved with freshmen camps and stuff will be greatly hit...

furthermore.. (this is my personal reason.... heh~) i'll be serving mandantory quarantine during this period...... (long story, something they imposed on international students)..... and i dun wanna miss the champs! :waah: anywayz, like what mist said, think it's a bit too much to ask frm a person alone.... sighz, so i shall just hope that champs is pushed back a little... :)

yup, think the gathering of the heads really impt.... and hafta be SOON. the clock is ticking. there's no time liaoz if champs really starting on 26 july this year.

question to M@D --> so the organising comm will be made up of capts frm the various institutes only is it? so what if capts are too busy with a whole lot of other stuff? what abt commoners? can commoners be in the comm?

actually i juz kanna :guns: arrowed last wk to help in the champs, soi don't actually have a lot of info abt the organising com, but fm wat i understand it will be made up of the various caps their reps from all the teams and ppl like me, those who are neither here nor there, just relaxing one corner, forgot to look ard and kanna arrow. :silly: however, i'm sure any1 who is willing to help is welcome. :welcome:

abt the meeting of heads, there is 1 called 4 nxt wk:wavey:, dun knoe the invitations go out olredi anot, mr henry supposed 2 b in charge of dat.

yah i think the dates are pretty early..altho i most prob wun be playing but yea i think its better for all the capts to come together and discuss on the dates..

Poor M@D... kana arrow is quite a chore stms esp if you have abt a month plus to organise everything.. Anyhow, we'll all try to help la, so dunch worry just call a meeting to straighten things out?

So are u gg to organise an official meeting? if so please contact us via email asap? Thanks! ;)

18-05-2003, 05:42 PM
hmm... well looks like a prob here ay?

the proposed dates look a bit tight but in any case..

just some suggestions...since all the caps will be chipping in prolly, you need to work out the various areas you need help in first, and on wed will just be "arrowing time"i.e. fitting people to their post. hahah that way the meeting wun be a hideous 2 /3 hrs. heheh Well, of cos if anyone thinks there shld be an inclusion of a certain post this year, then think abt it b4 we come to the mtg... yah

as for invitations...hahah experience tells me.... nothing works better than a personal phone call to whoever needs to attend the mtg, no matter who is gonna send out invitation. I mean if you put in the effort to hold the mtg and peps dun turn up, its gonna be bad for everyone's morale, yah?

anyways...good luck for the event. :)

The meeting is on 21 May 2003 Wed at SCF office at 7:30 pm. Mr Henry Sim from SCF is in charge of calling the meeting, at the same time Lip Bang from SP has been asked to contact all the team captains and everyone else whose contact number he has.

Of course, the meeting is not just open to the team captains. Anyone who wants to help out are most welcome to join the meeting.

Everyone please spread the word around about the meeting, I know it is a bit late now, but I didn't know that most of the ppl do not know about the meeting until monday. Sorry abt that, I do not have the contacts of many ppl so I left the contacting to Mr Henry Sim which I think was done quite late.

it's just the way things work around here lar...really got to make personal fone calls PERSONALLY... or like you did get ur frens to help you out! Cos seriously, we are not the only sport Mr sim is handling, so somethings...better to double check and do ourselves... ;)

and well...if you are on the recieving end of things...drop the organiser a msg and let him/her noe whether you gg or not...So frustrating for the organiser, if he has to call and check on everyone...we can all do our lil thigns to help lar! or else the organiser :bang: hahahahhah

Wonderful turnout just now at SCF.

First piece of good news - everyone, incl the U19, will shoulder a fair share of responsibilities by officiating.

Unity is strength. With everybody's help, I'm sure this champs will be a more resounding success than the one we had last year.

More good news to share - the U19 teams have unanimously offered to play full ICF rules. You go, ppl!

Hi everyone,

As the Chief Referee for this champs, I cannot emphasise more on the safety aspect of the games. Rest assured that I will mention this time and again during the officials brief on 16 Aug yet I'll spell it out here for the benefit of everyone, especially the U19s who will be joining us for the first time.

The tertiary institutions have had plenty of experience performing kayak rolls during training as well as at major competitions. However, the U19s may not have so.

Pls watch out for these few points with regards to the use of hand tackles. And DO KEEP THEM IN MIND.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR FRIENDS
1. Always watch where you are hand tackling your opponent to. DO NOT hand tackle him onto another boat or onto the edge of the pool. Not only will you receive a warning from the referee, more importantly, you risk injuring your friend.

2. Only hand tackle the back, upper arm and side of the torso. A common mistake is to end up hand tackling your opponent's neck area, which can inflict serious injury.

3. If you notice any player who is struggling to right him/herself after being capsized, please do not hesitate to go forward to aid him. This should apply to ALL players in the field, including your opponents.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES
4. Check that the loop cord at the far end of your spray deck is intact and fully exposed AFTER you have worn it over the combing of your kayak. It will be your lifesaver should you not be able to perform a kayak roll.

5. Do not panic if you capsize. Patiently perform a kayak roll or release your spray deck by pulling the loop cord.

6. If you cannot release the spray deck after you have capsized, simply attempt to 'stand up' on your kayak while you're upside down and submerged and the deck should come loose swiftly.

We shall see all you officials, team captains, referees etc (U19 inclusive) at NUS on 16 Aug 2.30pm.

Thanx :)

(Thanx ANYH for pointing my typo out)

Nope, according to Raymond (who is the chief ref) different boat colours are alright, as long as the buoyance vests, helmets and shirt sleeves are of the same colour.

I don't think the organisers will to able to implement it anyway, else the champs will be in chaos. Even SCF do not have enough equipments of different colours and it will be unfair for the participants when the organisers are unable to provide the equipments.

Raymond Liow
05-08-2003, 04:09 PM
Thanx M@D. That's right, I do not intend to restrict the colour of the kayaks. However, do note that other than the equipment that M@D mentioned, sponsors' endorsements on your gear should abide by the ICF regulations.

Would also like to make known that although we have set a minimum number of officials to attend the briefing on 16 Aug, we are more than welcome for anyone (even if you are not an official) to attend the brief and to learn more.

Not only will I run through the roles of each official, I will also be going through the rules and answer any questions pertaining to it.

Hope to see a healthy turnout for the brief.

1.2. For the Under 19(U19) Event, the ICF playing rules shall be modified to exclude all hand-tackles. All hand-tackles in the U19 Event are considered ¡Èillegal tackles¡É. The referee signal for illegal kayak tackle applies.

Please take not that that the competition timings, officials duties and referees duties have some changes. Please update yourselves

The GOH for the prize presentation is Mr. Steven Yeo, Deputy
Director of SSC.

Please try to get as many of your friends as possible to go and watch the finals. We need SSC's support if we want to get more fundings and pool slots, etc. It's best if the grandstand can be filled up.
