I'm trying to plan a long trip in NZ later this year.

can anyone tell me when the best whitewater season is and
which polo & river orientated clubs I should try and hook up with?

Depends on what type of whitewater you are into as you will probably find a river in some part of the country that is flowing.

For polo the main centres are Christchurch (Sth Is), Wellington, Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay and Auckland fortuantly all these cities are within some great whitewater, if you are interested in whitewater look at basing yourself in Taupo or Rotorua, the West Coast (Sth Is) around Christmas for creeking.
