:welcome:
Here is a site that will give you the locations of most of the places in the USA that have organized Kayak Polo.
http://www.uskayakpolo.org/main.php
has contact information for:
California: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego
Washington: Seattle
Colorado: Denver/Ft. Collins
Texas: Dallas
Mass./New England: Boston
There are additional places I have heard of with Canoe Polo that are not yet listed on the uskayakpolo.org site :
Austin Texas http://www.austinpaddling.org/
Baltimore Maryland/Washington DC area.
Boise, Idaho - Contact the Salt Lake City group for contact details
Sacramento, California - Not currently playing - but may get started again.
Rochester, New York - Contact the New England Canoe Polo group for better details.
New York City - Again, I believe the NECP group would have some information- or you could try the people who run this site: http://www.atlantickayaktours.com/index.html
Rumored places - I have also heard rumors of kayak polo being played in the following places :
San Luis Obispo, CA
Chico, CA
Portland, OR
There may be more places with active groups - hopefully if anyone else knows of them they'll post additional replies.

Just to add to Lester's post... not sure how much the Denver people played this winter. But, the Ft Collins Club had a good turn out. 12 teams split into two divisions. We play from October to March/April.
Also heard there were other Colorado towns playing but not sure how organized they are.

Jonas,
Just another quick note if you're looking for more competitive canoe polo using canoe polo boats (as opposed to whitewater boats with padded ends).
The four teams that entered Division 1 of last year's USA nationals play exclusively in polo boats (Boston MA, San Francisco CA, Austin TX and Los Angeles CA ). Most of the US National team that trained for the World Championships in Brazil and Essen came from these teams.
Additionally, San Diego, CA uses only polo boats, has a competitive program, and is co-hosting the 2003 US Nationals with Los Angeles later this year.
From what I remember, the Fort Collins, CO group also plays at a relatively high level and uses primarily in polo boats, but there are some whitewater boats thrown in as well (perhaps -AC can give more details if you need them). The coach of the USA team at the WCs in Essen helps organize polo in Ft. Collins.
The Maryland group is small, but I think they have polo boats.
The Dallas group plays in polo boats, and is primarily a youth program as far as I know. You could try sending a message to either steffers or megdawg on canoepolo.com if you want to know more about Dallas.
The other places in the USA I mentioned will be using either whitewater kayaks and/or sit on top kayaks, so you might want to consider that if you're looking to train.
Hope this additional info will help you, and if you want to know the specifics of any particular place let me know and I'll try to put you in touch with someone from that area.
Cheers,
John
more info.... the Fort Collins club uses mostly polo boats. But we do allow whitewater boats if the ends are padded. This is due to the large community of whitewater boaters. We play on 2 pitches, one a full size pitch with the second pitch of smaller size. And the coach (Marty) for USA worlds team spends a great deal of time and money for the local club. Thanks for all you done Marty! He coached and played in New Zeland too. The level of play in Fort Collins has increased due to his coaching and efforts.
If attending a university is a concern there are a few close by. Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, CO, University of Northern Colorado is in Greeley, CO about a 20 minute drive, and Colorado University in Boulder, CO is an hour drive. Hope that helps in your search.

hi mari bath
at first i want to thank you for the e-mail you posted to me
it is quite sure that i will go to New Hampshire. the town i probably go to is tilton this is about 150 km in the north west of bosten. i wonder now if i will be able to play canoe polo during my time in the staats because i thing its a great distance between my home there and Bosten where you practice i think
what do you know about this area or even tilton hope to hear from you again
best regerds jonas
Hi Jonas,
You are right that Tilton NH is close to a 2 hour drive north of where we practice. The good news is that one of the guys on our team just bought a kayak shop on Lake Winnipesauke (northeast of Tilton) and is talking about starting a team up there.
I need to find his new e-mail address, but I will send you his contact information as well as one of our other members who lives in Portsmouth NH so you can find out about the area.
I will be in touch soon!

Howdy Jonas,
We've started a team in New York City. We play at the Downtown Boathouse, off Peir 26 in the Hudson River. We have polo boats, but allow players to use other boats as desired. Check out www.downtownboathouse.org for more info.

I also moved over from germany to the us, and iam now stranded in Florida (DeLand) unable to continue my canoe polo career. I actually pretty desperate to play polo again, so it would be cool if there would be some club around in this area that you guys know of.

My parents live in the Sunshine State, so I spend a fair amount of time in Central FL. Though in many ways it's perfect for Canoe Polo, there isn't any here. The canal behind my parent's new house is about 30 M wide with parallel sides, about 1-2 M deep and several KM long... snif.
Sadly, unless you brought one, I think I have the only canoe polo boat in Florida!
Are you in FL permanently? If so, why not contact the local kayak stores and clubs to see if there is interest? You might just have to start them with sit-on-tops or whitewater boats in the beginning.
If you're interested in playing Canoe Polo, you might want to contact the closest team (Maryland - or maybe Texas) to see if they'd be interested in an extra player for the US Nationals... which will be in Austin, Texas this year.
Cheers,
John

I am in the process of starting a canoe polo team as part of our club. Currently we have 3 members and are looking for more. If you would like more info, visit our website at http://www.sfloridakayak.org or e-mail us at info@sfloridakayak.org. Our Kayak Club serves people from Key West to Orlando.
